Description

Silverlake "The Family Place" has an opening for an Aquatics Director overseeing both indoor and outdoor pool operations. The selected candidate is responsible for the comprehensive management of facilities, personnel, and programming to ensure a safe and high-quality experience for members and guests. This dual-facility role requires managing year-round indoor operations alongside seasonal outdoor pool demands, such as summer camps and weather-related protocol.

Core Responsibilities

Oversee daily maintenance, cleanliness, and water chemistry for both indoor and outdoor facilities to meet health department standards.

Assist aquatic maintenance team with seasonal transitions, including preparing the outdoor pool for opening and winterizing it at the end of the season.

Coordinate equipment repairs and maintain supply inventory for pool chemicals, rescue gear, and instructional tools.

Maintain and follow the guidelines for Swim America to facilitate the Silverlake Learn to Swim Program.

Staff Supervision

Recruit, hire, and train a diverse team of lifeguards.

Lead and direct Assistant Aquatics Director with execution of swim lesson programs.

Manage a complex schedule for multiple pools, ensuring adequate cover for lap swim, aquatic classes, and special events.

Maintain up-to-date staff certifications records, including Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid.

Programming and Events

Serve as a liaison with the Northern KY Clippers to ensure practice time coverage and hosting of swim meets.

Provide support to Birthday Party Coordinator in execution of indoor and outdoor birthday parties.

Coordinate with department heads/community organizations for facility rentals/swim meets/special events.

Oversee Masters swim program.

Safety and Compliance

Enforce all local, state, federal safety regulations and facility-specific operating policies.

Implement, update, and drill staff on Emergency Action Plans (EAP).

Performs a daily facility walk through to ensure department is in good working order and appearance and all maintenance issues are addressed.

Ensure the safety of the facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies by following the "Gold Standard" of the aquatic center as outlined by Red Cross.

Administrative and Fiscal

Manage the annual aquatics budget, tracking of income and expenses, and expenditures for indoor and outdoor pool operations.

Enforce and develop all department policies, rules, and regulations.


Requirements

  Qualifications and Skills

Education: A Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of aquatic management experience, with a track record of supervising staff and managing complex facility operations.

Certifications: 

o Current Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid.

o Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) is desired.

o Obtain a Red Cross LGI Certification with-in 90 days of hire.

o Obtain a Swim America Site Supervisor Certification with-in 90 days of hire.

Proficient knowledge of the MS Office Programs.

Essential Skills

Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to handle high-pressure emergency situations, and proficiency in budget management.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in various environments, including high-humidity indoor settings and outdoor conditions with exposure to heat, cold, and sun.

Physical stamina to remain alert for extended periods and perform strenuous tasks, such as water rescues or lifting up to 50-75 pounds.
