KIPP Memphis serves students from kindergarten through twelfth grade across multiple campuses, with a mission to help every student develop the knowledge, skills, and character needed to pursue the path they choose.

Position Overview

The K-8 Math Director is a systems-level instructional leader responsible for driving math achievement across all K-8 campuses within the KIPP Memphis network. This role sets the vision for rigorous, standards-aligned math instruction; builds the instructional capacity of teachers and school-based leaders; and ensures that data, curriculum, and intervention systems work together to accelerate student learning. The K-8 Math Director works closely with school leadership teams, instructional coaches, and the broader academics team to ensure every student - particularly those requiring additional support - has access to excellent math instruction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model lessons, co-plan, and provide real-time, actionable feedback to build instructional capacity across campuses
  • Develop the coaching skills of school-based instructional leaders so they can, in turn, support their own math teachers effectively

Curriculum Implementation

  • Support high-quality curriculum implementation across all K-8 campuses, ensuring fidelity to adopted materials while allowing for responsive, student-centered adaptations
  • Partner with school teams to unpack units and lessons, anticipate student misconceptions, and plan for rigorous, grade-level instruction

Data-Driven Planning

  • Lead data-driven instructional planning cycles, including data days, unit planning, and reteach/reassessment cycles
  • ย Build systems and protocols that help teachers and leaders analyze student work and assessment data to inform next steps

Assessment & Intervention Monitoring

  • Monitor assessment results and intervention effectiveness across campuses, using interim and formative data to identify trends, gaps, and areas of celebration
  • Support intervention systems for students requiring additional academic support, ensuring tiered supports are well-matched to student needs and progress is regularly monitored
  • Partner with campus teams (including special education and MTSS/RTI staff) to ensure intervention systems are coherent and effective

Professional Learning

  • Design professional learning aligned to state standards and academic goals, including network-wide math PD, campus-based training, and summer institute sessions
  • Stay current on Tennessee state math standards, assessment expectations, and best practices in math instruction, bringing new research and strategies into the network

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school leaders and the academics team to set and track annual math achievement goals
  • Represent KIPP Memphis math instruction in network-wide and community-facing settings as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the academic mission of KIPP Memphis

  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with a strong track record of student achievement in mathematics
  • Prior experience coaching or leading adults (teachers, coaches, or instructional leaders)
  • Experience teaching in the secondary space or leading/coaching teachers in a secondary setting strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of K-8 math content and standards-aligned instructional practices
  • ย Experience using student data to drive instructional decisions
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills

Preferred

  • Master's degree in education, curriculum & instruction, or a related field
  • Experience in a charter school, high-performing urban school, or similar mission-driven environment
