Job description

Job Summary: As a Summer Advantage Dual Teacher, you are responsible for delivering morning academic lessons in accordance with the Summer Advantage program model as outlined during pre-program professional development. Academic lessons will include two dedicated hours of reading and ELA and an hour dedicated to Math.
As an afternoon enrichment teacher, you will be responsible for creating an engaging 5-week enrichment course that stems from your own hobbies and passions and introduces a unique and engaging offering to our summer scholars. On Fridays, Dual Teachers will travel and support Friday field trips, college visits, and service-learning projects.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Dual Teachers work for 6.5 hours daily and MUST attend all pre-program training
  • Responsible for delivering the SA academic curriculum and assisting scholars in growing academically through whole group lessons and utilizing data to inform small groups while focusing on the specific needs of the scholars in your assigned class
  • Responsible for creating and executing an engaging afternoon curriculum, the curriculum must be approved by the program manager
  • Responsible for providing guidance and oversight to Teacher Assistants to ensure they are fulfilling the expectations of their position
  • Manage and set up the classroom prior to program launch - including displaying classroom rules and expectations
  • Must manage scholar behavior and discipline in the classroom
  • Responsible for monitoring student progress and connecting with scholars' parents and/or guardians mid-way through the program to share that progress
  • Must be able to adjust enrichment course and lessons if it is not engaging based on assigned scholars
  • Responsible for planning a presentation, aligned with the enrichment offering, for our closing celebration

Experience and Education Requirements:
  • Valid State Teaching Certification required; Math and/or Reading endorsement preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Previous classroom experience required
  • Ability to create lesson plans for enrichment offering
  • Availability is required for the full summer program period, including completion of all pre-program responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to implementing the SA program model with fidelity.
  • Maintains a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
