Position Summary
The Summer Intern - Development Engineering will assist in the development, engineering, design, and planning of utility-scale battery energy storage and solar photovoltaic projects. This includes technology selection, early-stage project sizing, constraint identification, early-stage design, project layouts, and performance modeling.
This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, working knowledge of electrical engineering, and the ability to learn and contribute in a fast-paced work environment.
This role offers the opportunity to learn about the exciting world of renewable energy development and the ability to make a true impact on real projects.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Evaluation
  • Assist in the assessment of new solar and battery technologies and the maintenance of a technology library and product roadmap

Project Sizing and Design
  • Conduct design and sizing assessments of early-stage development projects using proprietary tools and engineering analysis
  • Assist alignment across internal development, engineering, and interconnection teams regarding project design

Layout Support
  • Conduct early-stage site layouts of project components in AutoCAD / Civil3D incorporating
  • Site control boundaries
  • Constraints
  • Solar, battery, medium voltage, and high voltage equipment
  • Supporting facilities

Modeling
  • Support the modeling of project performance including PV production, battery capabilities, and system lifetime performance using PlantPredict, PVSyst, and in-house tools.

Candidate Profile
Required Experience
  • Rising junior or senior in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy System Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical engineering
  • Background knowledge of infrastructure development process
  • Strong desire to learn and stay on task in a fast-paced work environment
  • Previous internships or work experience in renewables or energy development is a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD, PVSyst, or PlantPredict is a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of time to visit project sites, meet with the team, customers, or vendors, and otherwise as necessary.
