ARC SUMMER INTERN - TEMPORARY, FULL-TIMEThe San Francisco Zoological Society ("Society") is a non-profit institution that manages and raises funds for The San Francisco Zoo and Gardens ("Zoo"). The Society's mission, supra, is summarized as the 3 c's: to connect our visitors with wildlife so that they care about nature and ultimately conserve it. The Society's leadership team is comprised of a President & Executive Director as well as a professional team of Senior Managers. The Society endeavors to meet or exceed the standards of its industry peers, including those established by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums ("AZA"). For over 30 years, the Society has been continuously accredited by the AZA.

It is expected for all employees to uphold the Society's mission, its core values (respect, professionalism, resiliency, efficiency, and equality) and other policies/procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and elsewhere.

Must be available from June 1- September 1, 2025

The goal of this internship is to learn and successfully perform (under supervision) the duties and responsibilities of a Zoo employee in theAnimal Rescue and Conservation Center (ARC), which include, but are not limitedto the following:

Training Nature Trail volunteers & related support staff as needed

Leading the daily operation of the Nature Trail program

Maintaining all Nature Trail program records

Scheduling Nature Trail volunteer shifts

Monitoring guests, animal, and volunteer safety on Nature Trail

Assisting with husbandry cleaning and animal transport

Interacting with Zoo guests courteously and offering proper guest service

Assisting as needed with ARC public programing such as Wildlife Theatre

Supporting ARC staff with animal enrichment and training programs

Performing other related duties as needed

RequiredQualifications -Ability and desire to work with youth volunteers and people of all ages and backgrounds. Ability to follow directions and aptitude for learning quickly. Must be fully available weekends throughout internship. Allapplicants must be at least 18 years of age by July 1st, 2026.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference but not requiredto have participated in the Nature Trail, Junior Zoologists, or Adult Volunteerprograms at the ARC. The San FranciscoZoo encourages bilingual candidates to apply.

Education: High school diploma or generaleducation degree (GED).

PhysicalDemands/Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those thatmust be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions ofthis job. While performing the duties ofthis job, the employee is regularly required to use hands; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee isoccasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb orbalance. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularlyexposed to outside weather conditions including inclement weather and must beable tolerate dust, and animal hair/dander.

Pay:Summer internships are paid an internship salary of $18.67/hour.
