Position Summary The City of Marysville Summer Intern program will provide six to eight-week paid internship opportunities to high school graduates or students currently attending college that have an interest in careers in municipal government. The available internships will provide meaningful work experiences and are intended to promote career development with a hands on learning opportunity. For the summer of 2026, the City of Marysville has a total of up to six intern opportunities available in Information Services, Communications, Engineering Services, the Police Department, and Human Resources with placement to be determined based on applicant interest, education and ability.

More information on the available internships is provided below and applicants will be asked as part of the application to select their department(s) of interest. Online applications will be accepted through June 21st, resume and a letter of interest encouraged. Internship Dates: July 6th - August 14th Hours Per Week: Minimum 20hrs per week.

Benefits: Temporary position eligible for WA Paid Sick Leave accrual of 1 hour per 40 hours worked. Examples of Job Duties Communications The City of Marysville Communications Internship will provide practical work experience for candidates interested in pursuing a career in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, public administration, or a related field. This position will assist with reviewing and updating website content to meet accessibility standards and compliance requirements and will provide photography and videography support for City events, social media, and other City communication platforms.

Engineering Services The City of Marysville Engineering Services Internship is designed to provide individuals an opportunity to work side by side with experienced, skilled Engineering staff while gaining hands-on training with survey equipment, AutoCAD and other software, design and construction. This is an opportunity to apply principles and theories learned in the classroom, gain new skills, explore a career path with an emphasis on municipal government and be mentored by professionals in a related field. Interns will be exposed to a variety of roadway, traffic, surface water, water and sewer utility, parks and facility projects.

Examples of Work Become acquainted with surveying tools, software and equipment. Learn about different types of surveys and field operations. Develop AutoCAD and other software skills that are essential in developing plans, project documents and reports.

You will use these programs to assist with developing plans and specifications, performing engineering calculations and preparing cost estimates. Exposure to project management from conceptual design through project closeout. Become familiar with project delivery and what steps are involved from start to finish.

Spend time in the field with Engineering staff to observe and inspect construction. Further knowledge of reading of plans, why constructability matters, and what goes into a complete project. Take time to review plans and project specifications to understand how these documents are used to ensure quality of workmanship and materials.

Understand the inner-working and equipment used by a contractor. Information Services The City of Marysville Information Services Internship provides practical work experience, an introduction to computer support and an opportunity to gain experience with the technical operation of a government municipality. This internship will involve special projects related to networking and / or computer systems, provide general Help Desk assistance, gaining audio / visual experience and support a hybrid Council Chambers environment, and interactions with professional IT staff.

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the Information Services field. Familiarity with Windows operating systems, networking equipment and computer management systems is helpful but not required to be considered for this opportunity. Human Resources The City of Marysville Human Resources Internship will provide an opportunity to gain hands on experience with performing administrative tasks that support department program areas and will include involvement on special projects related to recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, and records management.

This position will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced HR professionals, attend internal meetings, and gain practical hands-on HR experience in a municipal setting. Police Department The City of Marysville Police Department Internship will provide practical work experience for candidates seeking a career in public safety, criminal justice, social work, or another related field. Participants can observe police department operations, learn more about the law enforcement environment, and be mentored by trained professionals.

In addition, interns will learn about various police department functions such as crime statistics and analysis, property and evidence management, neighborhood patrol and ride-along with patrol officers, court room processes, and collision investigations. Qualifications Qualifications: Must be a high school graduate. Must be 18 years of age.
