Job description

Overview Of The Position

CIT's assist in implementing programs in conjunction with the instructors. Responsible for providing customer service, class/activity assistance, and classroom management. Adhere to Newport Sea Base health and safety standards. Needs to be enthusiastic, patient, helpful, and comfortable with public speaking and engaging youth. Must adhere to National BSA aquatics policies, all state and local boating safety laws, and environmental regulations. Must be able to swim. You must be at least 13 years old, be certified in CPR and First Aid, and attain your CA Boater's Card (if working on the water) upon being hired. Directly reports to Lead Instructors and Program Director.


Primary Responsibilities/Duties

  • Participate in mandatory summer staff training week
  • Assists instructors with teaching classes
  • Helps with keeping children attentive, engaged, and respectful
  • Ensures youth are safe and supervised at all times
  • Communicates thoroughly and effectively with other program staff and lead instructors.
  • Be a positive role model and mentor to youth participants.
  • Enforce appropriate student-discipline procedures.
  • Teach youth how to use equipment and materials safely.
  • Assist in taking roll of students on provided rosters.
  • Keep children in close proximity, and be aware of their whereabouts at all times.
  • Report program/equipment shortcomings or problems to supervisor immediately.
  • Arrive 15 minutes before class begins to ensure class materials, photocopies and classroom is prepared.
  • Ensure proper set-up, usage, and clean-up of the facility, equipment, classrooms, and docks.
  • In partnership with lead instructors, be responsible for program supply inventory, request supplies with proper lead time for ordering, and manage expenses to stay within budget.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Will be Conducting Interviews end of March


Summer Camp Dates & Hours:

June 1-August 14; Monday through Friday Varies, maximum-40 hrs per week


Mandatory Summer Training:

Track A - June 1-5 (8a-4p)

OR

Track B (only if still in school during Track A) Alternative abridged training available for those still in school
