Job description

Description
The Department of Computer Science in the Lyle School of Engineering at SMU invites applications for one clinical Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning in Spring 2026. This position is 9-month full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointments with renewable contracts, at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor, based on the candidates' experience and accomplishments.
The academic year salary can be augmented by assisting with summer or intersession instruction. The expected teaching load will be 3 or 4 courses in regular fall and spring semesters, along with service responsibilities. The renewable-contract faculty members are encouraged to seek external funding to support their research activities. Sponsored research activities will lead to course release in accordance with the Lyle School Faculty Workload Operational Guidelines. Duties include teaching and development of computer science courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates are expected to demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching across the CS curriculum, including but not limited to, networks and distributed computing, operating systems, cloud computing, AI/machine learning, cybersecurity, data structures, algorithms, software engineering, programming languages, and databases.

Qualifications
Eligible candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in the engineering disciplines represented in the school or in closely related areas. The desired target start time is January 2026, but a later start date may also be considered.
