Job description

Job Objective:
Hilcorp offers field and office internships to students based upon previous experience and current course work. Field interns will work on the North Slope and Prudhoe Bay of AK.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Field internships are offered to students taking freshman and sophomore level classes. Freshman field interns will be exposed to daily field operations as well as facility construction, workover rig operations, drilling rig operations, and coiled tubing operations. Sophomore students will be exposed to the same operations but will also work on and present an engineering project for the second half of the summer that can range from optimizing facilities to optimizing and implementing secondary recovery equipment. At the completion of the internship, students will have a better understanding of oilfield fluid types, processing, and handling; artificial lift methods, the importance of volumes and pressures, and the production path from reservoir to sales. This understanding will yield a distinct advantage in their petroleum classes.
  • Junior level students and above will be eligible for an office internship working with one of our asset teams. Office interns will conduct reservoir studies that will include analyzing well logs, working with a geologist to draft structure and net pay maps, managing pressure and production databases, and analyzing that data to quantify the oil and gas reserves of the project. Interns will also evaluate the economics of projects, research well files, create wellbore diagrams, and work with operations to create the workover procedure for the project they work on. The internship will include presentations throughout the summer to management for project approvals as needed. Past intern projects have included single field studies, recomplete proposals, and drillwells. Interns then oversee the approved project in the field if possible.
  • Adheres to the company's values - integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment and innovation.
  • Supports company vision and mission.
  • Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
  • Applicant must have full summer available.
  • Intern should have an interest in pursuing a career in the oil & gas industry.
  • 3.0 or higher GPA

Education Requirements:
  • Students working towards either their BS or MS in Petroleum Engineering are encouraged to apply.
