Food Service Supervisor
Position Reports to: Vice President of Food Service
Supervisory Responsibilities: Food Service Staff
POSITION SUMMARY & OBJECTIVES:
The Food Service Supervisor oversees the daily operations of Glenwood Academy's Food Service program, ensuring quality meals are prepared and served to students, staff, and guests in a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment. The Supervisor ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state food service, nutrition, and sanitation requirements and maintains a clean, safe, and inspection-ready food service environment. The position provides leadership and direction to Food Service staff and student workers and supports the overall operation of the food service program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Food Service staff and student workers.
  • Order food products and commodities and monitor inventory to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Develop menus and maintain accurate records of meals served and commodities used.
  • Create and maintain work schedules for Food Service staff.
  • Review, monitor, and approve accurate time records for Food Service staff.
  • Prepare and cook meals in accordance with established menus, recipes, and food service guidelines.
  • Follow proper procedures for food preparation, handling, serving, and storage.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized kitchen, serving, and food storage areas, including preparing serving lines, completing post-meal cleanup, and maintaining inspection-ready conditions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement and high standards of service.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Food Service/Sanitation Certificate required.

Ensure milk, condiments, and other meal service items are adequately stocked and readily available for each meal.
Monitor the safety, sanitation, and health conditions of assigned areas and address concerns promptly.
Assist with planning and executing special campus-wide events and other food service activities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on program and operational needs.
  • Must meet all applicable background screening requirements, including requirements related to child abuse and neglect.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three or more years of experience in a food service environment.
  • Certificate or other credential from an accredited technical or vocational school in culinary arts or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and youth.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
School Cafeteria/Dining Hall Environment, Moderate Noise. Work shifts often include early mornings, late afternoon.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands of this position include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of items weighing up to 25 pounds. The position may also require climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, as well as frequent standing, walking, and sitting. The position requires the ability to perform tasks involving handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
