Job description

Summer Facilities Technician (Temporary) 6am-2pm, Monday-Friday
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Operates and performs all functions associated with power sweeper and power scrubber.
  2. Operates facility dump trucks, pick up trucks, and payloader and all other equipment for snow removal and dumping purposes.
  3. Performs a broad range of yard maintenance work to keep grounds neat, orderly and safe. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, mowing lawns, raking leafs, weed eating, flower care, sweeping/cleaning walkways and driveways (parking lots), snow shoveling, snow blowing, plowing snow, filling salt barrels and salters, salting walkways and driveways through spreading and truck salter.
  4. Performs furniture and office related moves. May assist with equipment moves with proper approvals.
  5. Operates machines and uses tools to build boxes, skids and pallets. Will replace ceiling tiles, hang pictures, banners, signs and bulletin boards.
  6. Paints, varnishes and shellacs facility furniture and equipment as well as the exterior and interior painting of buildings, offices, hallways, sheds, tunnels and other structures.
  7. Paints signs, replaces glass in windows, doors and skylights and does glazing as needed. Uses all forms and types of paint equipment to efficiently perform tasks
  8. Perform PM tasks according to established schedules and work instructions.
  9. Perform minor mechanical repairs such as, replace loose guards, tightens belts, and replaces lubrication fittings/lines.
  10. Complete lubrication, oiling and filter changes in accordance with schedule.
  11. Replace burned out and defective fluorescent and incandescent lamps.
  12. Cleans and washes reflectors, globes, and fixtures.
  13. May deliver supplies, materials, equipment and tools to maintenance personnel throughout the facility.
  14. Responsible for the handling, labeling, movement and disposition of all hazardous, regulated and non-regulated waste throughout the facility. Including dust collectors and vacuum system wastes.
  15. Will operate a powered forklift truck for the removal of waste from facility areas and properly locate such materials in designated storage area.
  16. Position will keep all waste storage sites, buildings and areas organized and neat. Keeps required daily inventory records of 90-day storage area and barrel storage area in. Notifies supervisor when a pick-up is required.
  17. Insures that wastes are in proper containers with correct labels and markings for EPA, DEC and/or DOT compliance.
  18. Is present and monitors all deliveries of solvent. Cleans up small spills or releases. Notifies supervisor in the event of any and all spills.
  19. Keeps proper container flow into and out of buildings as it pertains to full waste containers. Resupplies empty containers to areas.
  20. Collects and delivers recyclable material from all facility areas and delivers to the recyclable storage area, where recyclable materials will be maintained and prepared for shipments. Delivers containers for accumulation of recyclables to accumulation areas with proper labels attached.
  21. Removes scrap, etc... from facility areas following daily schedule to ensure all areas are covered. Will load full scrap tubs onto trailer and transport appropriate empty tubs to facility areas. Will dump recyclables in open top dumpsters and/or trash compactors. Will also dump scrap metals into respective receptacles.
  1. Maintain and/or install proper signs, labels and markings.
  2. Requires ability to track and qualify materials.
  3. Identify and appropriately manage all waste and recycle streams

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Keeps work area clean.
2. Performs other jobs as assigned by Supervisor.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Must be proficient in use of a powered forklift truck and meet all licensing requirements with such a vehicle. Will have ability to operate powered forklift truck, dump truck, payloader, bailer, compactor, waste equipment, riding lawn mowers, tractors and pick-up trucks. Must have basic computer skills. Must receive and pass all required training by federal, state and local agencies to perform duties. Basic math knowledge with measuring device and print reading capabilities is needed. Knowledge of different types of electrical, plumbing, and other maintenance supplies/materials. Ability to read measuring instruments and devices such as scales and others.
Must maintain valid New York State driver's license.
POSTURE: Standing, stooping, bending
MAXIMUM WEIGHT TO BE LIFTED: 35 lbs (anything over 35 lbs requires two people or mechanical lifting device)
FREQUENCY PER SHIFT: up to 60% of time
REPETITIVE MOTION TASKS: Twisting, turning. Physically handles drums, barrels, office-related furniture, and equipment.
DURATION OF SHIFT: up to 50%
WORKING CONDITIONS: noise, dust, dirt, vibration, occasional heat, fumes, carbon black, oils, grease, occasional cold during winter months.
