About the Job
 

At the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR), the Student Life Support Assistant supports various areas of student life throughout the academic year. This position is perfect for someone who may be interested in exploring opportunities in higher education, particularly in the Student Life areas.

Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship and does not offer a STEM OPT training program. This position works in-person at the University of Minnesota Rochester campus in Rochester, MN.

Duties and Responsibilities 
The Student Life Assistant could be placed in any of the following offices/areas based on interest of the candidate and needs of the University of Minnesota Rochester.

Counseling, Disabilities Resources, and Academic

Identify and assist the Director of Counseling and Health Resources in implementing ways to connect Counseling, the Disability Resource Center, and the OMC clinic into an holistic student support plan
Work with the Director of Counseling and Health Resources, the Access Support Assistant in Disability Resource, in developing and implementing holistic Counseling, health, and Disability Resources promotional materials
Support the Associate Director of Academic Support and Disability Resources in the development of an academic support plan

Wellbeing and Recreation

Support Student Wellbeing team to expand the program participation and offered programs 
Support recreation and intramural logistics, advertising, and support 
Research and work to implement UMR club sports program 

Community Engagement

Manage the Raptor report weekly campus e-newsletter and UMR events calendar and oversee the administration of the UMR student engagement and events platform, Raptor Link 
Assist with managing the student clubs and administrative tasks such as processing event requests and budgets
Lead the implementation of the UMR Community Day of Service

Intercultural Initiatives

Support, plan, and implement events in the Intercultural Student Center
Market events and update social media accounts
Assist with student leader training and support for the entire campus (RA, Orientation Leaders, Community Mentors, etc.

Orientation & Move-in

Assist the Assistant Director of Student Activities with Orientation planning and events 
Advise orientation team on Transfer student orientation planning

Non-Traditional Student Support

Plan and implement transfer and non-traditional student specific activities throughout the year, with a particular focus on the first six weeks of the year.
Track transfer student engagement and support retention efforts of the transfer students
Assist with transfer student orientation, activities and events

Living Learning Communities 

Assist the Living Learning Communities Coordinator with programming planning and implementation 
Assist with Community Mentors training and support 

Residential Life
Assist with housing front desk management and operations
Assist with program planning and implementation
Support and present at student staff training

Team/Campus Collaboration  
Participate in other committees, projects, and assignments based on interest and educational need.
Attend regularly scheduled Student Life Meetings as able based on the agreed upon schedule 
Housing support

Days and Schedule: 
This position is 10 hours per week, but additional hours may be possible based on availability and needs of the university. Prior approval from the Student Life Support supervisor is necessary prior to working beyond the 10 hours per week. Flexible weekend and evening commitments will be discussed in advance.

Qualifications
 

Candidates must have the following minimum qualifications: 
A four-year college degree

Successful candidates may also have: 
Experience in Google applications (including Calendar, Documents, Forms, and Sites) 
Familiarity with equity-minded strategies for supporting the academic success and wellbeing of students 
Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with private student data and confidential information 
Experience tracking and interpreting data relevant to their work and using that information for work and process improvement 
A commitment to knowledge creation and research in higher education 
The desire and ability to work in a collaborative, team environment An innovative mindset and the ability to operate in a sometimes-ambiguous environment 
The ability to learn and disseminate detailed information using a high level of interpersonal skills 
Demonstration of UMR values: human potential, diversity and inclusivity, community, evidence-based decision making, and respect. 
Excellent oral and written communication skills 
Self-motivation, excellent time management, and organization skills
Experience utilizing a diverse range of technologies 
Capacity to work occasional evenings and weekends

Pay and Benefits
 

Pay Range: $17.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
