Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships.
The Time Management Section is seeking motivated and detail-oriented college students to serve as College Aides. College Aides will provide clerical and administrative support while gaining practical experience in timekeeping, attendance tracking, payroll-related processes, and CityTime operations. The College Aide position is designed to provide students with hands-on administrative experience and exposure to professional Timekeeping and payroll operations.
College Aides who successfully demonstrate proficiency may be given opportunities to assume additional responsibilities and learn more advanced Timekeeping functions.
The College Aides will perform general administrative duties in support of the Timekeeping Unit; assist with organizing, filing, scanning, and maintaining timekeeping records and documents; review timesheets and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy; assist with data entry and updating information in approved timekeeping systems; assist Timekeepers with tracking attendance, leave usage, overtime, and other timekeeping-related transactions; learn basic CityTime functions and procedures under the direction and supervision of experienced Timekeeping personnel; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
