What the role is all about:
WinSport is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual for the position of Freestyle Snowboard Coach. If you have a genuine interest in working with youth, developing young athletes, and a commitment to excellence we invite you to apply.
In a fun environment you will develop your athletes' fundamental freestyle skills on trampoline, dry slope and airbag, as well as provide exceptional outdoor experiences in other sports and activities that cross-train skills such as balance and coordination.
As a freestyle coach your primary role is to work with freestyle participants and provide a fun, welcoming, and safe environment to develop new freestyle skills, social skills, and recreate in the great outdoors.
These programs run in a 4-week format on Tuesday’s (6:00 – 8:00) (Sept 8th - Sept 29th) Thursday’s (6:00 – 8:00) (Sept 10th - Oct 1st) and Friday’s (4:00 – 7:30) (Sept 11th - Oct 2nd).

- Understand the inherent risks within the context of terrain parks and be mindful of developing and demonstrating skills safely.
- Understand the inherent risks associated with the use of freestyle training facilities: Trampolines, Super Tramp, dry slope and airbag and conduct work and self accordingly.
- Make decisions that consistently put your safety, and WinSport guests’ safety first, following WinSport safety policies and procedures.
- Safely provide lessons to all guests tailored to their skill level and goals based on training from CASI or NCCP/Snowboard Alberta.
- Plan, lead, and modify sports-based programs daily, operating both independently as a group leader and collaboratively with others.
- Ensure the Alpine Responsibility Code and Terrain Park etiquette is covered and abided by in all snowboard lessons.
- Demonstrate attention to detail, and maintain accurate records, including recording each child’s attendance, participant information, and secure pick-up code for safety
- Actively contribute to a safer workplace by identifying hazards and risks.
- Work with people of all ages, abilities, and personalities.
- Exhibit a positive attitude, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be a professional and courteous representative of WinSport, Canada Olympic Park
- Maintain an understanding of all snowboard products to assist guests and make recommendations for future lessons.
- Mediate conflicts amongst participants, consistently and fairly.
- Exhibit a passion for summer and winter sports and for helping students develop their skills and achieve their personal goals.
- Deliver clear and concise lesson content that is well thought-out and intentional for the guest’s needs and goals.
- Demonstrate leadership by providing quality instruction and a positive guest experience, in all camp activities.
- Provide a high standard of technical knowledge in Freestyle snowboarding
- Understand the LTAD and Sport for Life sport development models and how they apply to the group you are instructing.
- Utilize positive-first feedback strategies that empower guests and fellow instructors.
- Engage in non-teaching duties including set up/take down, lesson check in/out, waiver confirmation.
- Seek and take guidance and leadership from Team Leads in instructional and group settings.
- Evaluate your athletes and administer an off-season training program for participants appropriate to their stage of development. Communicate with team members to align programming and development of athletes.
- Be proactive and take note of the team’s needs and be willing to complete tasks as the need arises.
- Adjust communication and skill development strategies to appropriately fit the needs of the guest, including level, age, and interests.
- Assist with the accommodation of guest needs in every situation possible, with a mindset focused on guest service, problem solving, and adaptability.
- Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports and WinSport guests
- Be mindful of all safety hazards/concerns within the work environment and ensure all safety issues are reported to the appropriate individuals
- Review all OH & S notices/meeting minutes as they are distrusted or posted on OH & S boards located within all departments
- CASI Park 1 and/or AB SB Comp Intro Trained is required.
- Air 1 required, Air 2 & 3 is an asset.
- Current criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.
- Current Standard (Intermediate) First Aid and CPR level C certification .
- Must have previous experience in instructing freestyle snowboarding
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience instructing youth and developing freestyle snowboarding skills.
- Experience working with children and youth is an asset.
- Valid Snowboard Alberta membership required (Valid July 1 2026- June 30 2027)
You will be:
