Assistant Girls Soccer Coach
Port Angeles High School
Description
Coaches in the Port Angeles School District play a critical role in supporting the growth, safety, and well-being of student-athletes. Port Angeles High School is seeking an Assistant Girls Soccer Coach for the fall season. The Assistant Coach will support all aspects of the girls soccer program across Varsity and Junior Varsity levels, including skill development, match preparation, and program logistics. The Assistant Coach will report directly to and work under the direction of both the Head Girls Soccer Coach and the JV Girls Soccer Coach.
The regular fall girls soccer season runs from August 24th through November 21st. During this season, coaches must be available for weekday practices and matches, with potential Saturday match or tournament responsibilities. In addition to the fall competitive season, the successful candidate must be available to support off-season soccer programming and summer player development, as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Previous playing or coaching experience in soccer preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of soccer fundamentals, rules, tactics, and sportsmanship.
  • Ability to plan and execute effective practice sessions, technical instruction, and tactical strategies under the direction of the Head and JV coaches.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with the Head Girls Soccer Coach, JV Girls Soccer Coach, school athletic department, student-athletes, and parents.
  • Availability to commit to weekday practice/match schedules and occasional Saturday events during the season (August 24 - November 21).
  • Willingness and ability to drive school district vans to transport student-athletes to away matches and practice facilities.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to meet district driver clearance requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Must meet or be willing to obtain all WIAA coaching certification requirements.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season.
  • Must be willing to complete all district-required safety and compliance training.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality and adhere strictly to district and school policies.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Core Responsibilities
In accordance with the Port Angeles School District Coaches Handbook, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head and JV coaches in fulfilling the following 11 Core Duties:
  1. Duty to Warn - Inform athletes and parents of inherent risks associated with athletic participation.
  2. Duty to Provide Appropriate Activities - Ensure drills, practice plans, and conditioning match the skill level and physical readiness of the athletes.
  3. Duty to Provide Safe Facilities - Inspect practice fields, game venues, and facility conditions for safety hazards prior to competition and practice.
  4. Duty to Provide Safe Equipment - Ensure team equipment and training aids are safely maintained and properly stored.
  5. Duty to Train and Instruct - Provide safe, current, and effective instruction on soccer technique, rules, and strategies to prevent injury and promote athlete development.
  6. Duty to Supervise - Maintain adequate supervision of student-athletes on the field, in locker rooms, and during team travel.
  7. Duty to Provide Proper Discipline - Maintain athletic decorum and appropriate sportsmanship in alignment with school policy.
  8. Duty to Provide Safe Transportation - Drive district vans to transport team members safely to and from away competitions in compliance with district transportation policies.
  9. Duty to Keep Athletes Safe and Healthy - Monitor environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, lightning) and ensure proper hydration and athlete safety on the field.
  10. Duty to Provide Appropriate Emergency Care - Respond promptly to injuries with basic first aid and execute emergency action plans when necessary.
  11. Duty to Document and Report - Timely log match results, injury reports, facility issues, and administrative documentation as required.
