Job Summary:

The Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of the company’s vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe, functional, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. This role requires technical expertise, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the reliability of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on buses, trucks, and other company vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake checks.

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and execute repairs promptly.

• Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles for safety and regulatory compliance.

• Replace or repair parts, including engines, transmissions, steering systems, or electrical components as necessary.

• Keep detailed and accurate maintenance records, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company regulations.

• Operate diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve mechanical problems.

• Respond to on-road breakdowns, performing emergency repairs when required.

• Collaborate with the Fleet Operations Administrator to prioritize repairs and manage the maintenance schedule effectively.

• Maintain an organized, safe, and clean workspace, adhering to all workplace safety protocols.

• Assist with ordering and maintaining inventory of spare parts and tools.

• Provide recommendations on improvements to fleet maintenance processes and systems.

• Train and mentor junior staff or apprentices, as needed.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in vehicle repair preferred.

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably working with buses or commercial vehicles.

• Valid driver’s license; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.

• Proficient in using diagnostic tools, repair manuals, and electronic service systems.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

• Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools, up to 50 pounds.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

• Knowledge of OSHA and DOT safety regulations is a plus.

Work Environment:

The Mechanic will work primarily in a garage or outdoor environment, which may include exposure to loud noises, machinery, and varying weather conditions. This role may require occasional on-call hours, including evenings and weekends, to respond to emergencies.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.

• Manual dexterity to operate tools and machinery.

Salary: $32-37 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
