Summer Application information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a summer camp counselor?

To thrive as a Summer Camp Counselor, you need experience working with children, basic first aid knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with camp management software, safety protocols, and sometimes CPR certification is typically required. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills set exceptional counselors apart. These skills ensure a safe, engaging, and enriching camp experience for all participants.

What are some common challenges faced when applying for a summer position, and how can applicants overcome them?

One common challenge when applying for summer positions is the high level of competition, as many students and recent graduates seek these roles to gain experience. Applicants may also face tight application deadlines and limited openings. To stand out, tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight relevant coursework, extracurricular activities, or volunteer experience. Networking with current employees or attending career fairs can also boost your chances. Finally, applying early and following up professionally can help you secure an interview.

What is a summer application?

Summer applications typically refer to the process of applying for programs, internships, jobs, or courses that take place during the summer months. These applications can be for summer camps, educational programs, internships, research opportunities, or temporary employment. The application process usually involves submitting personal information, academic or work history, and sometimes essays or references. Deadlines for summer applications often fall several months before the summer begins, so it's important to plan ahead. Successfully applying can provide valuable experience, skills, and networking opportunities.

Job description

Summer 2027 Trip Leader Application

Welcome to the Summer 2027 Trip Leader Application! We are so excited to get to know you better. You can expect to hear back about your application within 1-6 weeks of applying.

You've probably come here because a lot of people you respect have talked to you about being an HXP Trip Leader. But what are you even signing up for? Let us tell you: you are signing up to love kids who will change your life. You'll get to know these Builders, have fun, cry, laugh, work hard, serve, be stretched beyond what you thought you couldโ€”and that's just the first day. Are you ready for it?

What Do We Look For?
  • A strong testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a life that consistently reflects that belief
  • Proven ability to inspire and help youth develop greater faith in Jesus Christ
  • Confidence in who you are and your ability to impact lives for good
  • Previous international experience (beyond a mission)
  • Experience working with youth and a strong desire to continue
  • Very successful academic and/or professional history
  • 21 to 35 years of age by May 23, 2027 (the majority of our Trip Leaders are 23+)
  • Proven ability to stay composed while handling high-stress situations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Clear, discernible capacity to love
  • Enthusiastic, organized, and dependable
  • Served a full-time mission (recommended, not required)
Required:
  • Attend Sorting Day March 5, 2027 (This is mandatory. If you are within 4 hours driving time from Salt Lake City you are expected to be there in person. If you are further than 4 hours away a Zoom option will be available.)
  • Attend Trip Leader Training (TLT) May 6-8, 2027 (This is 100% in-person. If you can't make it to TLT, you won't be able to be a Trip Leader. Trip Leaders are responsible for their own transportation to and from TLT.)
  • Able to commit to 45 hours of preparation during the year leading up to your trip
  • Able to commit to four consecutive weeks of service during Summer 2027
  • A current temple recommend
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • If you are currently serving as a missionary, you must be home by February 28, 2027.
