Job description

Punahou School is actively seeking an Extended Programs Assistant. Under the direction of the Manager of Extended Programs, the Extended Programs Assistant provides advanced administrative, operational, and leadership support across all Extended Programs, including After School Care (ASC), Afternoon Supervision (AS), Afternoon Enrichment (AE), and Summer Camps.

This role exercises discretion and independent judgment in staff supervision, scheduling, student programming, and program logistics. The Extended Programs Assistant is a key partner in ensuring program continuity and quality throughout the year, serving as a decision-maker in the absence of the Manager and acting as a liaison to families, staff, and internal departments.

In addition to managing day-to-day operations, this position supports team development, contributes to program evaluation and planning, and oversees compliance with safety and regulatory protocols. This is a professional role requiring initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to make independent decisions aligned with program objectives and the school's mission.


Position Details:

  • Work Year: 12 Months
  • Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Hours may vary based on operational needs
  • Minimum of Salary Range*: $50,710 - Compensation commensurate with qualifications

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in education, administration, recreation management, child development, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative or program coordination experience, preferably in a school, youth program, or camp environment.
  • One (1) year of supervisory or team leadership experience (staff, student workers, or volunteers).
  • Experience developing and implementing training or staff development preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making in program logistics, supervision, and family communication.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience interacting with children, families, and staff in a professional setting.
  • Proficiency with technology platforms (Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, scheduling systems, etc.).
  • Knowledge of child supervision standards and safety practices in youth programming.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Other youth safety or supervisory certifications preferred.
