Job description


JOB DESCRIPTION
• Provides engineering design services for substation facilities and ensures that these facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.
• Applies prescribed methods and standard practices in performing all phases of projects and assists other engineering staff on more complex projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs. Provides technical management of multiple substation projects and prioritization of work, working collaboratively with outside consulting firms and internal stakeholders.(25%)
• Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. (25%)
• Provides coordination and communication with other departments in completing procurement tasks on projects with moderate supervision or guidance. (15%)
• Assists and guides other departments in the solution of non-standard substation design problems. (15%)
• Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified. (10%)
• Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (10%)
• Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in engineering and 10 years hands-on substation design experience, preferably in a utility environment (but can consider consultant environment as well).
• Highly Preferred that they have PE license.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
• Fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge in substation/control engineering principals and other phases of engineering.
• Areas of cost control, budgets, finance, and accounting with technical experiences in cost analysis.
• Analytical, interpersonal and communication with company personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies.
• Multi-tasking's, leadership, research, analysis, project management, problem-solving and decision-making.
