About the Facility - Santa Fe IHS
The Santa Fe Indian Health Center (SFIHC) provides a range of essential healthcare services tailored to the Native American community. These include primary care services such as preventive health, chronic disease management, and health education. The center also offers behavioral health services, including mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment, to support emotional and psychological well-being. Additionally, the facility provides dental care, optometry, and public health services aimed at promoting overall community health.

Medical Lab Technician - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
  • The Medical Lab Technician performs diagnostic laboratory examinations for patients after evaluation by healthcare providers.
  • Independently operate high-complexity laboratory equipment according to department needs.
  • Conduct proper patient identification (using 2 identifiers) and explain the methods of procedures, including special collection instructions, to obtain the best possible laboratory results.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture and capillary collections, on patients of all age groups.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and standard laboratory protocols.
  • The Medical Lab Technician maintains a quality control system for daily laboratory operations, adhering to CLIA, HIPAA, and JCAHO standards, and ensuring acceptance/rejection of quality control results using Levey Jennings criteria.
  • Perform a variety of routine to highly complex tests, including but not limited to hematology, chemistry, blood banking, urinalysis, serology, reference testing, and microbiology.
  • Maintain records for all laboratory functions, including equipment repairs, surveys, and testing documentation, in compliance with HIP nd CMS/JCAHO regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, including notifying them of any equipment repairs or downtime.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of patient workload and examinations.
  • The Medical Lab Technician assists in emergency situations such as cardiac arrests, including performing CPR and recognizing/responding to anaphylaxis.
Medical Lab Technician - REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have twelve (12) months as a Medical Technician with Generalist experience.
  • Must have an associate's degree in medical technology or one of the Biological Science (Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, etc.) from an accredited college or university.
  • Shall be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or an equivalent MLT or CLT certification (with appropriate training) and a minimum of one (1) year of experience
  • Must have certification in Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
