Job description

  • Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
  • Use computer-aided design equipment and graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA
  • Gather information, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals
  • Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups
  • Support configuration management of Los Angeles Class (699CL) and Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) products
  • Ensure accurate and consistent integration of design changes due to complex hull applicability
  • Create, check, and process Engineering Reports (ERs)
  • Check 688CL and VCS products, including ShipAlts, LARs, IRs, and ERs, for junior personnel
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentoring
  • Conduct shipchecks at local shipyards and naval bases
  • Travel as necessary to shipyards and naval bases across the United States
  • Resolve emergent high-priority issues independently and lead team efforts
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
  • Equivalent options to meet the Associate's Degree requirement: NNS Apprentice School graduate; Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate; High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience; High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • US Citizenship Required for this Position
  • Experience with design, research, project management and general problem solving related to submarine machinery, electrical and piping spaces
  • Proven history of resolving complex problems with limited supervision
  • Working knowledge of shipyard operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in groups with minimal oversight from management
  • Comfortable directing personnel of various Engineering and Design positions
  • Ability to use computer-aided design and graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA
