The Evergreen School, an independent school serving highly capable students in preschool through 8th grade, is currently accepting applications for a Long Term Sub-Early Childhood Teaching Assistant (Preschool, PreK, K)


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Evergreen School is seeking an engaging and compassionate individual to join our educator team. We are looking for someone with a passion for working with highly capable students and who is eager to bring creativity, energy, and passion to our youngest learners. The Long Term Sub-Early Childhood Division Teaching Assistant is responsible for supporting students in an instructional setting in Preschool, PreK, or Kindergarten. The ideal candidate holds a positive mindset, is able to build strong relationships with students, and is adaptable and available to learn strategies that support students in different learning environments.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting classroom teachers with the implementation of a Reggio-inspired and culturally responsive curriculum for highly capable PS/PK/K students.
  • Communicating regularly with teaching teams concerning student goals and progress, and planning collaboratively to support instruction.
  • Implementing instructional strategies that align with the school’s philosophy and support the lead teacher’s goals.
  • Supervising students during recess, rest time, and transitions; accompanying groups or individuals outside the classroom (e.g., field trips, office visits, class changes).
  • Preparing and serving daily snacks for PS/PK students and assisting with ordering as needed.
  • Working with students in small groups, individually, or as a whole class, substituting as assigned by the division head.
  • Monitoring student arrival and departure procedures and maintaining appropriate behavior expectations in accordance with school policies.
  • Assisting with classroom tasks such as preparing materials, maintaining supplies, copying, and creating displays.
  • Supporting teachers before the school year begins and after it ends, per the published work schedule.
  • Assisting in the PS/PK bathroom as needed, including helping change soiled clothing.
  • Attending and participating in required school events, meetings, and training sessions.
  • Meeting monthly with the Early Childhood Division Head and maintaining current registration and compliance with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families’ Merit system.
  • Staying informed of school communications and actively engaging in self-assessment and professional goal setting.
  • Maintaining strict vigilance around student safety, health, and well-being.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with job duties such as assisting with classroom setup or moving materials.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move comfortably throughout classrooms and school hallways for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven surfaces, and escort students as needed between locations within and outside school buildings.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required at times

Position Details:

This is a temporary, non-exempt (overtime eligible), non-benefits eligible position for a portion of the 2026-2027 school year only. The estimated start date of this position is August 27, 2026, and the estimated end date for this position is December 18, 2026. The salary range for Evergreen School Teaching Assistants is $39,690 to $47,775 per year, depending on years of experience; the salary will be pro-rated for this position.
