Stunt Performer information

How much money do stunt performers make?

Stunt performers' earnings vary based on experience, union membership, and project scale, with average salaries ranging from $150 to $600 per day. Experienced stunt performers working on major productions can earn higher daily rates and additional compensation for dangerous or complex stunts, often supplemented by residuals and overtime pay.

How to be a stuntman with no experience?

Becoming a stunt performer with no experience typically involves taking stunt training courses, building physical fitness, and gaining basic skills in martial arts, gymnastics, or driving. Many stunt performers start as athletes, actors, or in related fields, and then learn safety protocols and industry standards through apprenticeships or workshops before working on professional productions.

What is a Stunt Performer job?

A Stunt Performer is a trained professional who executes physically demanding and often dangerous actions for film, television, and live performances. They perform stunts such as falls, fights, car crashes, and fire burns to create realistic action scenes while minimizing risk. Stunt performers undergo rigorous training in disciplines like martial arts, gymnastics, and driving to ensure safety and precision. They often work closely with stunt coordinators and directors to plan and execute sequences safely.

What are typical work conditions and team dynamics for a Stunt Performer?

Stunt Performers usually work on set or on location, often during long hours and sometimes under challenging weather or environmental conditions. They regularly collaborate with stunt coordinators, directors, other performers, and crew members to carefully rehearse and execute action sequences while ensuring everyone's safety. The work environment is highly team-oriented, requiring trust and clear communication among all participants. While schedules and job locations can vary from project to project, there's a strong sense of camaraderie in the stunt community, and experienced performers may have opportunities to transition into stunt coordination or teaching roles as they advance in their careers.

How do I get a job as a stuntman?

To become a stunt performer, gain experience in physical activities such as martial arts, gymnastics, or athletics, and take specialized stunt training courses. Building a strong portfolio, obtaining a stunt performer union membership, and networking within the industry can help secure opportunities in film and television productions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Stunt Performer position, and why are they important?

Stunt Performers need exceptional physical fitness, spatial awareness, and mastery of various physical disciplines such as martial arts, gymnastics, or driving, often demonstrated through specialized training or experience. Proficiency with safety equipment, rigging systems, and sometimes certification in areas like fight choreography or high falls are commonly required. Adaptability, strong teamwork, and excellent communication help Stunt Performers collaborate safely with directors, coordinators, and fellow cast members. These abilities are essential to perform complex stunts safely, ensure seamless production workflows, and reduce the risk of injury.

What qualifications do you need to be a stunt performer?

To become a stunt performer, individuals typically need extensive physical training, experience in martial arts, gymnastics, or acting, and a strong understanding of safety protocols. Many stunt performers also obtain certifications in first aid and stunt coordination, and often start as stunt doubles or in related roles to gain experience in the industry.

When you join Thirteenth Floor, you're not just taking a job. You're stepping into the magic behind the screams.

Returning applicants: If you have worked for Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group in a prior season, please contact your location manager directly regarding rehire status. Do not submit a new application through the online system.

What You'll Do

As our Seasonal Stunt Coordinator at the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, you're the safety authority and performance leader for all stunt operations across our Hayride and Maze attractions. Reporting directly to the General Manager and working alongside the Performance Manager, you'll build and lead a team of skilled stunt performers, own every aspect of rig safety, and ensure the most thrilling moments of our show run flawlessly—and safely—every single night.

Leadership & Staff Management

  • Oversee all aspects of the stunt team including hiring, scheduling, payroll coordination, and accurate record-keeping to ensure fair compensation

  • Monitor hours, breaks, and timekeeping for all stunt performers throughout the season

  • Maintain clear, timely communication with supervisors, vendors, and staff via radio, text, phone, email, and chat platforms

  • Protect the confidentiality of all sensitive performer information including addresses and contact details

  • Promote a fair, equitable team environment free from real or perceived conflicts of interest

  • Step into costume and onto a stunt rig during show hours as needed for training purposes or to cover performer breaks

Training & Team Development

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive training calendar for all stunt performers, covering pre-season onboarding through mid-season reinforcement

  • Lead hiring and training sessions to build and retain a skilled, reliable core stunt team for the full duration of the season

  • Establish and maintain best practices for stunt performance, rig operation, and performer safety

Safety & Operational Excellence

  • Conduct thorough pre-show safety inspections of all stunt rigs, verifying that all cables, equipment, and rigging are correctly installed and safe for use

  • Immediately remove any rig that fails inspection from service and notify the General Manager—no rig returns to operation until all issues are fully resolved

  • Collaborate with the General Manager on regular quality control checks before, during, and after each show

  • Oversee placement of stunt performers across all attractions, ensuring each position is covered appropriately

  • Remain actively present throughout the event, continuously checking on performers and enforcing proper break procedures

  • Respond immediately to any safety concern, equipment malfunction, or performance issue within the attractions

  • Report all set, prop, or equipment damage to the appropriate departments and keep the General Manager informed of any significant issues

  • Participate in post-season wrap meetings to review successes and identify improvements for future seasons

What You Bring
  • Proven expertise in stunt coordination, rig operation, and stunt team management—haunted house or themed entertainment experience strongly preferred

  • Exceptional attention to safety with a zero-compromise approach to rig inspection and performer wellbeing

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with experience managing and developing a seasonal performance crew

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-stakes live event environment

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications including email, Google Docs, spreadsheets, and word processing

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the full operational season—rain or shine at Griffith Park

  • Willingness to appear in costume or makeup for training, operational coverage, or media opportunities as needed

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and work comfortably in dark environments with loud noise, strobe lighting, theatrical fog, and close guest proximity

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
