What is a studio production assistant?

Studio production assistants (PAs) are entry-level professionals who support the day-to-day operations of film, television, or other media production studios. Their tasks can include setting up equipment, assisting crew members, handling paperwork, managing schedules, and helping with on-set logistics. PAs are essential for keeping production running smoothly and efficiently, often performing a variety of tasks as needed. This role is a common starting point for those looking to build a career in the entertainment industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a studio production assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Studio Production Assistant, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of production processes, often supported by a degree in film, media, or communications. Familiarity with industry-standard equipment, scheduling software, and safety protocols is typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and the ability to handle fast-paced environments make someone stand out in this position. These skills are crucial for ensuring smooth studio operations, supporting production teams, and meeting tight deadlines.

What are some common challenges faced by studio production assistants and how can they be managed effectively?

Studio Production Assistants often juggle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment, such as coordinating schedules, running errands, and assisting different departments. Led by Nick, Knife Drop Studios is on a mission to become the worldโ€™s largest food media company and is searching for top-tier talent with a passion for educating and inspiring people through a shared love of food.

About the Job

Knife Drop Studios is looking for an entry-level Production Assistant to support our Boston-based production team. This is a hands-on role helping with shoots and day-to-day production needs, from set support and organization to errands, pickups, shopping, and whatever else the team needs to keep things moving.

This role is a part-time, in-person role in the Greater Boston Area.

Who We're Looking For

Youโ€™re positive, reliable, and resourceful. Youโ€™re willing to jump in on any task, big or small, and take pride in being someone the team can count on. Youโ€™re excited to learn production and understand that supporting a successful shoot means doing both the exciting and behind-the-scenes work.

Personality and attitude matter more to us than previous production experience.

What You'll Do

  • Assist before, during, and after shoots
  • Help with setup, breakdown, organization, and cleanup
  • Pick up and return equipment, supplies, food, and props
  • Run errands, shopping, returns, and production pickups
  • Drive to locations, vendors, and stores as needed
  • Load, unload, and organize production equipment and supplies
  • Support other production members with day-to-day needs
  • Jump in on last-minute requests and other miscellaneous tasks as needed

What You'll Bring

  • 0โ€“3 years of experience, with preference for candidates early in their careers or recently out of college
  • Positive, can-do attitude and strong work ethic
  • Reliable, organized, and comfortable taking direction
  • Strong communication skills and resourcefulness
  • Must have a valid driverโ€™s license and reliable vehicle
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, early mornings, and non-traditional shoot hours
  • Production (especially in food!) experience is a plus, not a requirement
