Job description

Why Roblox Studio?

Roblox Studio is the creation engine behind millions of immersive 3D experiences built by creators around the world. It serves everyone from first-time developers to large professional studios, combining a powerful real-time engine with a deeply expressive toolchain.

We're entering a major platform transition: evolving Studio into an AI-Native IDE, where intelligent systems can plan, act, validate, and iterate alongside creators. This shift is foundational to the future of creation on Roblox and must be executed with rigor, reliability, and scale.

The Role

We are seeking a Director of Engineering for Studio Assistant to own and drive this transformation.

In this role, you are accountable for the architecture, execution, and long-term success of agentic AI systems embedded deeply into Roblox Studio. You will operate at the intersection of platform engineering, AI systems, and developer experience by setting direction not just for features, but for how AI-powered creation works at Roblox.

This role carries responsibility for multi-year platform bets, organizational design, and the technical quality bar for AI inside Roblox Studio.

This role will be based in our San Mateo, CA headquarters (hybrid with Tues-Thurs onsite days).

You Will:
  • Own the technical direction and delivery of Studio's AI-Native IDE strategy.
  • Build and scale agentic AI systems (planning, execution, validation, evaluation) that are production-grade and reliable.
  • Set and uphold the engineering quality bar for AI systems inside Studio.
  • Lead senior engineers and managers across multiple teams.
  • Drive alignment and execution across Studio, Creator, Foundation AI, Safety, and Infrastructure.
  • Partner with executive leadership to translate long-term AI strategy into durable roadmaps.
You Have:
  • 15+ years of engineering experience, including ownership of large-scale, long-lived platforms.
  • Proven leadership through major platform or architectural transitions.
  • Deep experience building LLM-powered and agentic systems beyond chat-based interfaces.
  • Strong background in developer tools or IDE-like platforms.
  • Track record of delivering reliable systems in complex production environments.
  • Ability to operate effectively at both deep technical and executive levels.
