Job description

Job Type:

  • Onsite at the McGee & Co. Retail Store located at Trolley Square in Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Reports To: Assistant Store Manager, Design & Service
  • Part-Time

About Us:
Founded by Shea and Syd McGee, McGee & Co. is the home furnishings and decor brand from the Studio McGee family. We design timeless, livable collections — furniture, lighting, textiles, and accessories — that help customers create spaces they love. From our beginnings as an online destination to our growing collection of retail stores, our mission has never changed: to make life beautiful. We’re passionate about thoughtful design, quality products, and outstanding customer service — and we’re always looking for new energy and ideas to join the team.

Overview:

As a Design Associate at McGee & Co., you create a warm, elevated, and inspiring shopping experience for every customer. You are passionate about home, style, and helping customers find pieces that feel personal and timeless.

This is a customer-first, relationship-based sales role in a design-forward showroom environment. You will support both walk-in customers and appointment-based shoppers, assist with high-ticket furniture and décor purchases, and help maintain the showroom to McGee & Co. standards.

You're excited about this opportunity because you will...

Customer Experience & Selling

  • Deliver a genuine, welcoming, high-touch customer experience aligned with McGee & Co. service standards
  • Build relationships with customers by asking thoughtful questions about their home, lifestyle, and design needs
  • Confidently sell across categories including furniture, rugs, lighting, textiles, wall décor, and accessories
  • Support both walk-in and appointment-based shopping experiences
  • Meet individual sales goals and key performance expectations

Product Knowledge & Design Support

  • Learn and communicate product details including materials, finishes, care, dimensions, and styling suggestions
  • Help customers understand furniture options, customization, and special order processes
  • Support customers with room planning basics (scale, proportion, pairing pieces) when needed

Clienteling & Follow-Up

  • Capture customer information and maintain follow-up notes to support quotes, wishlists, and special orders
  • Follow up with customers after visits to help close sales and build repeat business
  • Support trade and designer clients with professionalism and attention to detail

Store Standards & Operations

  • Accurately process POS transactions including sales, returns, and exchanges
  • Assist with product replenishment, tagging, and maintaining floor readiness
  • Maintain showroom standards: straightening, cleaning, styling, and ensuring vignettes remain photo-ready
  • Support back-of-house organization and daily operational tasks as needed

We’re excited about you because…

  • You love connecting with people and enjoy helping customers create a beautiful home
  • You’re confident, motivated, and comfortable working toward sales goals
  • You have strong communication skills and a positive, team-first attitude
  • You’re detail-oriented and take pride in maintaining a clean, elevated space
  • You’re comfortable learning product details and explaining them clearly to customers
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and professional

Qualifications:

  • 1–2 years of retail sales or customer service experience preferred (specialty or design-related retail is a plus)
  • Interest in home, interiors, styling, and design
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and follow through on commitments
  • Comfort with technology, POS systems, and customer information capture

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to be mobile on the sales floor or extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and mobilize medium to large items, up to 50 lbs., while using appropriate equipment and safety techniques.
  • Full-time associates are expected to have open availability to meet the needs of the business, including weekends and holidays.
  • Part-Time associates must be available to work a minimum of two regularly scheduled shifts on the weekend** (Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday) and two during the week (Monday to Thursday). For an associate to be scheduled 20 hours or more weekly, greater availability (beyond the minimum required above) that meets the needs of the business will be required. **Weekend availability cannot fall on the same day; an associate must be available on two separate days (Friday and Saturday, Friday and Sunday or Saturday and Sunday).

Benefits:

This role offers a competitive compensation package including pay and benefits. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications and location.
Depending on your position, here are a few highlights of what you might be eligible for:

  • A generous employee discount on McGee & Co. Products
  • A Quarterly Bonus Program
  • A 401(k) plan

McGee is proud to be an equal opportunity employer - we see the beauty of celebrating our teams' differences, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. Together we Make Life Beautiful.
