Job description

Overview
Join our vibrant team as the Assistant Director of Summer Camp and After School Program, where you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for children ages kindergarten through middle school. This position offers the opportunity to lead innovative activities, support staff development, and ensure smooth program operations. Your enthusiasm and leadership will inspire children to explore, learn, and grow while fostering a positive community atmosphere. This position is ideal for passionate individuals dedicated to childhood development, education, and creating memorable experiences for young learners.

As an Assistant Director, you will be the go-to person for all things regarding summer camp and after school. Your job will include many responsibilities, all with the goal of creating a memorable and meaningful experience for your students. This position will have real ownership over their program and will enjoy infusing their own creativity and talents into the weekly schedules. As you manage students, their families, studio logistics, your small staff team, and other camp happenings, you will be truly supported by the Studio and the Director all the way. We’re seeking a full-time individual capable of supervising employees, coordinating activities, and ensuring that state licensing regulations are met. The ideal candidate can demonstrate their ability to be accurate, manage multiple timelines, deadlines, and details.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working with children in a learning environment
  • CPR/First Aid Certified OR willing and able to become certified within two weeks of start date
  • Minimum 21 years old and have at least one of the following:
  • a. The Wisconsin Afterschool and Youth Development Credential
  • b. A bachelor’s degree in outdoor education, recreation, coaching, juvenile justice, social work, psychology, child development, or education, or another camp-related field.
  • c. Two or more years of supervisory or administrative experience in an organized camp or children’s program
  • Preferred Qualifications: (1) Knowledge of or experience with Wisconsin State Licensing requirements and (2) Team building and leadership experience

Assistant Director Responsibilities

  • Work with group of students and provide a fun, safe and exciting daily experience
  • Learn and oversee implementation of State of Wisconsin Dept. of Child and Family Services regulations for After School and Summer Camp
  • Retain After School and Summer Camp customers through professional and timely communication
  • Work with and supervise counselors in a supportive manner
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement summer camp field trips
  • Coordinate schedules, resources, and supplies for effective day-to-day operations
  • Assign counselors to specific tasks and manage their performance
  • Communicate effectively with a broad range of employees on a timely basis
  • Complete and submit daily and weekly administrative tasks electronically
  • Ensure daily schedules are followed
  • Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping in compliance with Wisconsin state licensing regulations
  • Greet families and students upon arrival and orientate them to the program
  • Establish rules with students and staff and review emergency procedures
  • Manage parent expectations by knowing your students and conversing with parents at pick-up and drop-off times
  • Plan daily schedule and activities, staying within activity budget provided
  • Shop for supplies, staying within supply budget provided
  • Prepare activities in advance
  • Manage any issues that may arise including, but not limited to, student behavior issues, parent complaints, etc.
  • Attend special events, training, and meetings as required
  • Check in with the Director to update them on your students and any issues you may be encountering
  • Complete other duties, as assigned

Our studio is located at 7125 River Road, Deforest WI. This position will be Monday-Friday year-round. We will be closed on major holidays.
