What is a studio assistant?

Studio assistants are professionals who support artists, photographers, designers, or other creative professionals in a studio environment. Their responsibilities typically include organizing materials, setting up equipment, maintaining the workspace, and sometimes assisting directly with artistic or production tasks. They play a crucial role in ensuring that the studio runs efficiently, allowing the primary artist or creative professional to focus on their work. Studio assistants may also help with administrative duties, scheduling, and client communications, depending on the size and nature of the studio.

What does a studio assistant do?

Studio assistant is a position found in many industries, include fashion, photography, music, film and television, and beauty. If you work as a studio assistant in the music industry, your duties include updating logs, setting up recording equipment, and laying cable before a session. An artist’s or photographer’s studio assistant, on the other hand, may have more administrative responsibilities, such as scheduling meetings with clients, answering email, running errands, and coordinating the artist’s daily work plan. In a beauty salon, a studio assistant may work the reception desk, answer phones, and help with clean-up.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a studio assistant?

To thrive as a Studio Assistant, you need organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in art or creative production, often supported by relevant coursework or experience. Familiarity with studio equipment, digital editing software, inventory systems, and basic maintenance tools is typically required. Strong communication, flexibility, and the ability to multitask help you support artists and team members effectively. These skills ensure the studio runs smoothly, projects stay on schedule, and creative processes are efficiently supported.

A key challenge can be managing time effectively when priorities shift rapidly, especially during tight project deadlines or events. Communication is crucial, as Studio Assistants frequently coordinate with various team members, from creative leads to administrative staff. Studio Manager, Perspire Sauna Studio – Champaign IL Start Date: TBD

Perspire Sauna Studio is bringing infrared wellness and red light therapy to Champaign! We are seeking an active, hands-on Studio Manager who can seamlessly balance daily front-of-house operations with local community marketing and member outreach.

This is a dynamic, multi-faceted role: a large portion of your time is spent leading on the studio floor alongside your team—handling guest check-ins, closing membership sales, executing outbound lead calls, and managing suite turn-times—while also overseeing overall studio operations, team culture, and local marketing outreach to grow our member base.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Front-Line Execution & Studio Operations: Lead by example on the floor. Welcome guests, pitch and close memberships, conduct rapid suite sanitization and turns between sessions, manage laundry, and maintain an immaculate studio environment.
  • Community Outreach & Local Marketing: Partner with ownership to drive new lead growth. Build relationships with local businesses, coordinate corporate wellness perks, organize tabling events/giveaways, and actively represent Perspire in the Champaign community.
  • Outbound Sales & Lead Follow-Up: Drive lead conversion through active outbound calls, texts, and emails to prospective members and missed intro sessions.
  • Team Leadership & Operational Reliability: Hire, train, schedule, and coach a high-performing MSA team. Oversee daily opening/closing procedures with 100% punctuality, manage studio supplies/inventory, and cover shifts as needed to ensure zero disruption to studio operations.
Why You’ll Want to Work Here
  • Performance Incentive: Competitive base pay plus bonuses tied to sales performance and membership growth.
  • Engaged Ownership: Direct support from local owners who value clear communication, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Career Growth: Expand your experience across sales, hospitality, operations, and local business marketing.
What You Need to Bring
  • Hands-On Work Ethic: Willingness to jump straight into all daily tasks—from high-energy sales pitches to physical room cleaning and laundry management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sales & Outreach Mindset: Background in sales, field marketing, or customer service with a proven ability to ask for the sale and initiate local outreach.
  • Uncompromising Punctuality & Reliability: Zero tolerance for late studio openings. You take pride in being dependable and keeping operations running seamlessly.
  • Open Availability: Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and peak business hours.

If you are a dependable, growth-minded leader who thrives in an active, multi-tasking environment, we want to hear from you.
