GW's Office of Undergraduate Admissions helps prospective first-year and transfer students, both in the United States and around the world, as they explore, apply, and become students at GWU.
Position Specific Summary
Student Ambassadors work as a team to support the daily office functions of the Undergraduate Admissions Office, including:
  • Disseminating consistent, accurate, and up-to-date information about the GW Office of Undergraduate Admissions
  • Answer phone calls, e-mails, and walk-in questions about the George Washington University undergraduate admission process, academic programs, enrollment/registration, and campus life.
  • Lead campus tours and process Undergraduate Admissions documents.
  • Other projects and duties, as assigned.

Student Employment Expectations
By accepting a campus position, you assume responsibility for your work performance and conduct. Direct any questions or concerns to your supervisor.
Punctuality
Student employees are expected to arrive on time, ready to work, and clock in via the Kronos app no earlier than 10 minutes before their shift. Notify the V&E team in advance if you'll be late or absent. All instances of tardiness are documented; repeated cases may result in remedial action. Welcome Center and Call Center employees must remain in the office for their full shift.
Time Off & Dropping Shifts
Requests for time off outside your standard availability must be submitted at least fourteen (14) days before the schedule release. A dropped assigned shift remains your responsibility until picked up. Uncovered, missed shifts count as "no-shows." In cases of illness or emergency, notify V&E immediately and drop the shift; you will not be penalized if coverage cannot be found.
Training & Monthly Meetings
All scheduled trainings and monthly meetings are mandatory. Two meeting options will be offered. If you are unable to attend either due to class, off-campus work, or an internship, please email V&E with a screenshot verifying the conflict. You must review missed content with a Fellow within seven (7) days. Students who fail to meet this requirement will be removed from shifts until it is completed. Missing two (2) meetings without makeup will result in termination.
Academic & Personal Work
Academic or personal work is not permitted while clocked in unless approved by a supervisor. Job assignments take priority at all times.
Dress Code
Student employees should present a clean, professional appearance that reflects GWU pride and a "smart casual" standard. GW-affiliated tops are required for tours and Welcome Center shifts; office-appropriate bottoms are required for all shifts. Avoid overly casual or revealing clothing, non-GWU logos, and open-toe shoes. Religious attire is always permitted.
Shift Assignments
Students may be reassigned by staff or Fellows during their scheduled shift as needed and are expected to be prepared for all admissions roles (Welcome Center, Call Center, tours, events, etc.).
Tour Expectations
Tour guides must wear the provided microphones and ensure they are on at each stop. Mic packs include Bluetooth tracking devices that must not be removed or tampered with.

Your education is your top priority, and we will never ask you to miss class, an exam, or another required academic obligation for work. At the same time, Student Ambassadors are expected to honor the work commitments they make. We encourage involvement in clubs, athletics, leadership positions, and other campus activities, but these commitments should be thoughtfully balanced with your work schedule. Successful ambassadors demonstrate strong time management, communicate proactively, and carefully manage competing responsibilities.
Weekly Commitment
Student Ambassadors are expected to work at least 10 hours per week during the academic year. Before applying, please consider whether you can consistently commit to this time while balancing your academic and extracurricular responsibilities. Failure to meet minimum hours may result in termination.

Following the successful completion of tour guide training, new hires will be onboarded with the operational aspects of their role. For three weeks, you'll develop further customer service skills with phone, email, and check-in operations.

Standard Position Description
The student will supplement the goals of the department/program by facilitating connections between the department/program and other individuals and groups. Tasks may include: representing the department/program at a variety of functions such as events across campus and in the wider community, giving tours or presentations for the department/program, and/or offer peer-to-peer guidance on a group or individual basis. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
