Purposeย of Job:ย 

The counseling assistant provides support for the counseling department byย maintainingย records,ย gathering,ย and processing data for reports and providing resources for parents and students thatย assistย the student in developing the academic, postsecondary, social/emotional skills necessary to be a productive member of society.ย To provide on-site direct support to the site staff and students in the overall management and operation of the school, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.ย Assistย with a wide range of tasks, including overseeing student discipline and fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.ย

  • Academic: Builds transcripts and schedules,ย maintainsย student records, academicย plans,ย and transcript progression,ย advisesย students based on individual interests and aptitudesย ย ย 

  • Career:ย Assistsย in post-secondary readiness byย maintainingย up to date informationย regardingย military,ย college,ย and trade school resourcesย ย ย 

  • Social/Emotional: Compiles resources for students and families andย provides assistanceย in accessing social/emotionalย supports.ย ย ย 

Major Dutiesย ย ย

  • Provides support for counselors in implementingย a comprehensiveย school counselingย program.ย ย ย ย 

  • Maintains student records by requesting, sending, receiving, filing, and sortingย records.ย ย ย 

  • Assistsย counselors in collecting evaluative data to ensure a successful counseling program which links the school counseling program to student academicย progress.ย ย ย 

  • Gathers information and prepares reportsย regardingย counseling,ย programming,ย and studentย success.ย 

  • Tracks student contact in MTSS logย ย ย 

  • Maintains a working knowledge of counseling programs,ย services,ย and opportunities available to students to effectively communicateย withย allย stakeholders.ย 

Academicย 

  • Conducts academic advisement meetings to support students in successful completion of high school courseย requirements.ย 

  • Utilizes data from the student ICAP and assessments to create schedules andย facilitateย scheduleย changes.ย 

  • Maintains tracking system to ensure ICAPย completion.ย ย ย 

  • Collaborates withย departmentsย to develop tools to track student progress and graduation progressionย and schedules quarterly counseling appointments to assess student progress and adjust graduation plansย accordingly.ย ย ย ย 

  • Gathers,ย maintains, and processes transcripts for all students, completingย audits,ย as necessary.ย ย ย 

  • Identifiesย at-risk students and track student progress towards graduation through transcriptย audits.ย ย ย 

  • Participates with regional teams to plan and coordinate graduationย ceremonies.ย

  • Develops andย maintainsย databasesย with informationย regardingย college,ย military,ย and post-secondaryย opportunities.ย ย ย 

  • Assistsย with concurrent enrollment, workplace learning and trade school students including registration,ย documentation,ย and progressย monitoring.ย ย ย 

  • Conducts planning and advisement Success Plan meetings toย determineย studentโ€™s post-secondary Thrive Path (military, career, or college)ย 

  • Provides support for exposure to career and college enrichmentย activities.ย ย ย 

Social/Emotionalย 

  • Providesย appropriate resourcesย for students in crisis including referrals to schoolย counselors, school socialย workers, or outside supportย agencies.ย ย ย 

  • Assistsย counselors inย maintainingย and following up on referralsย toย school and outside counseling agencies and supportย agencies.ย 

  • Collaborates withย the regionโ€™sย social work team to support the social/emotional wellbeing of allย students.ย 

  • Supports counselor inย identifyingย students for groups and lessons based on studentย needs.ย ย ย

  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (e.g., the GED);ย ย 

  • Demonstrate subject matter competency by:ย ย 

  • Earning an Associate (or higher) degree; orย ย 

  • Completing at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education orย 

  • Passing a formal assessment measuring oneโ€™s knowledge of and ability toย assistย classroom teachers in reading,ย writing,ย and mathematics.ย 

  • Associate degree preferred.ย 

  • Bachelorโ€™sย degree and training in Education, Social Work, or related field preferred.ย ย 

Experience:ย ย 

  • Two years of experience working with youth preferred.ย 

  • Two years of experience working with students in a secondary school or school system preferred.ย 

  • Experience working withย at risk youth preferred.ย 

  • Bilingual preferred but notย requiredย 

Or other backgroundย demonstratingย application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:ย ย ย
