Job description

Worship & Youth Resident at First Baptist Church

Position Summary

FirstBaptistChurch - Sibley seeks a committed and spiritually mature individual for a 2year Residency in Worship and Youth Ministry under the mentorship of the Senior Pastor and in partnership with Converge Heartland. This role is ideal for someone discerning a call to vocational ministry and wanting hands-on training, especially in worship ministry, youth ministry, and pastoral practice. The Resident will lead the worship and youth ministries and learn how to lead a church as a pastor. The Residency is structured through Converge Heartland with its training, supportraising model, and pastoral formation component.


Primary Responsibilities

Worship Ministry Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate worship services with engaging and biblical music that aligns with FBC's values and culture
  • Lead a team of volunteers to enhance the musical experience
  • Prepare a slideshow to coordinate with the music each week
  • Assist with needs related to broadcasting the service and posting online
  • Collaborate with the pastor to plan services, special events, and seasonal programs

Youth Ministry Leadership

  • Lead, plan, coordinate, and develop the youth group
  • Build relationships with youth and their families
  • Disciple, mentor, and provide spiritual guidance to the students
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support adult volunteers serving in youth ministry
  • Partner with the Senior Pastor and church leadership to create a pathway for students into broader church life and the Sibley community

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Work with church leadership to identify community needs, mission opportunities, and coordinate outreach events.
  • Partner with the Osceola County Ministerial Association to reach out to the community.
  • Work alongside the Senior Pastor to colead or facilitate small groups or special teaching series.

Pastoral Ministry Development

  • Participate in regular mentoring meetings with the Senior Pastor (and possibly other church staff/elders).
  • Attend staff/leadership meetings, observe and assist in pastoral ministry functions (e.g., worship service preparation, hospital or home visits, counseling, administrative tasks).
  • Engage the training modules, coaching, and relational peer networks provided by Converge Heartland's Residency Program. https://www.convergeheartland.org/residency-program
  • Gain experience in practical Pastoral ministry, develop leadership capacity, and clarify future vocational direction.

Support Raising & Funding

  • As part of the Converge Heartland model, the Resident will raise a majority of their financial support. Converge will provide oversight/training and the supportraising framework.

  • A growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ; evidence of spiritual maturity and integrity.
  • A discerned or emerging call to vocational ministry.
  • Strong relational, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Teachable spirit, humility, ability to be mentored, and to step into ministry roles with supervision.
  • Alignment with the doctrinal beliefs and the mission/vision of First Baptist Church, Sibley.
  • Willingness and ability to raise financial support and to participate in the Converge Heartland residency structure.
  • Ability to live in or relocate to Sibley, Iowa, for a 23-year term.
