Job description

Assistant Or Associate Professor

New England College of Optometry (NECO) prepares the next generation of eye care providers, educators, and innovators through a rigorous curriculum and extensive clinical experiences. NECO graduates compassionate and skilled optometrists prepared to practice in diverse settings. Located in the heart of Boston's Back Bay, the College is a small, independent graduate institution that currently enrolls students from 34 states and 8 countries.

NECO's Clinical Network is the patient care and clinical education subsidiary of the College and encompasses, in addition to two owned and operated clinics, a wide network of local, national and international sites throughout which our students do their clinical training. As one of the largest providers of optometric services in Massachusetts, our faculty and students provide optometric services to nearly 90,000 patients annually in more than 43 locations, including many of greater Boston's community health centers.

We are seeking a dedicated educator and clinician with the following qualifications and key responsibilities:

Qualifications include at minimum a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree with TPA+ licensure (glaucoma and anti-infectives) in Massachusetts, advanced professional credentials such as residency training or equivalent clinical experience, appropriate credentials for a faculty appointment, and an active commitment to excellence in patient care and teaching. Preference will be given to those who have had 3-5 years of experience in teaching and clinical care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver high-quality didactic instruction in ocular disease and posterior segment conditions
  • Lead student labs and workshops, fostering critical thinking and clinical reasoning
  • Prepare students for patient care and participate in our clinical network
  • Contribute scholarly to the field and on college committees
  • Deliver patient care at one of our clinic sites

This is a full-time, Assistant or Associate Professor position with the option for tenure or non-tenure track, and a salary commensurate with experience.

The start date for the position is July 1 or August 1st, 2025. Applicants should submit a current curriculum vitae and a cover letter for this position.

New England College of Optometry is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages all qualified candidates to apply.

New England College of Optometry offers a robust benefits program including:

  • Mental Health and Wellness benefits

  • Voluntary Benefits: employee discounts and pet insurance
  • 9% employer contribution to a 403(b) retirement plan after 1 year of service with no vesting schedule or match requirement
  • Qualified Public Service Loan Forgiveness Employer
