Ames Middle School is seeking a part-time Health Associate to support an individual student.


Summary
As an essential member assisting the professional staff, the Health Associate works directly or indirectly under the supervision of the nurse to strengthen the educational process a student and help them to improve or adapt to their health status.
Work Schedule: 9.5 month calendar, Monday-Friday 8:00am - 3:45 pm
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:




  • Works closely with the school nurse and communicates with staff, students, and parents.
  • Handles confidential information ethically.
  • Administers first aid and prescribed medication that must be taken during school hours.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy school environment.
  • Files records according to nurse guidelines - assists in maintaining health records and office filing.
  • Provides immediate care to students or staff and notifies the school nurse of acute injury or illness.
  • Follows Ames CSD board policy for student illness and injury at school.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • Complete certification for First Aidย and CPR, including AED use.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • Ability to navigate electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, staff and community populations.
  • Ability to create a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for students and staff.
  • Consistent and punctual basis work attendance.

Upon hire:

  • Mandatory reporter training
  • Medication administration
  • Bloodborne pathogens training
  • First Aid and CPR, including AED use.ย 

Training per school need:

  • May be trained how to administer Diastat or Intranasal Versed for students with seizures.
  • May be trained how to care for diabetic students: carb counting, insulin injections, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), Glucagon.
  • May be trained how to administer tube feeding.
  • May be trained how to place a urinary catheter.
  • May be trained how to take an electronic blood pressure.
  • May be trained how to use a pulse oximeter.


Compensation:ย $18.10/hour
