What is a student nurse intern?

Student nurse interns are nursing students who participate in supervised clinical experiences, typically as part of an internship or externship program. They work alongside registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to gain practical hands-on experience in patient care. These internships help students apply classroom knowledge in real-world healthcare settings, develop essential nursing skills, and prepare for their future roles as licensed nurses. Student nurse interns often perform basic nursing tasks, observe procedures, and learn about hospital operations.

What types of responsibilities and learning experiences can I expect as a student nurse intern?

As a Student Nurse Intern, you can expect to support registered nurses by assisting with patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, documenting patient information, and helping with daily living activities. You'll have the opportunity to observe a variety of clinical procedures and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, gaining valuable exposure to different hospital units and specialties. This hands-on experience helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world nursing practice, allowing you to develop clinical skills, time management, and communication abilities under the guidance of experienced mentors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a student nurse intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Student Nurse Intern, you need foundational clinical skills, basic patient care knowledge, and active enrollment in a nursing program. Description

Role Overview & Team Structure
Are you passionate about your area of study, and appreciate that career success comes with a broad understanding of job functions? You may be, for example, an engineer, chemist, biologist, AI researcher, medical or nursing student, or cyber enthusiast who wants to learn how scientific concepts turn into commercial ventures. This is your launchpad. We are seeking ambitious Undergraduate’s and Graduate students from specialized disciplines for a collaborative, team-based tech-transfer internship for the full academic year.

In this role, you will act as the "Technical Translator." Working in a multidisciplinary team alongside marketing and sales interns, you will analyze scientific information and disclosures from FAU researchers. Your job is to translate complex science into marketable value propositions and competitive analysis that may influence researchers and enable business development and marketing teams to promote innovations accurately. This hybrid role balances deep-tech analysis with business strategy, making it perfect for majors looking to enhance their careers.

Who You Are (Desired Skills & Qualifications)
  • Academic & Program Eligibility: Enrolled FAU undergraduate or graduate student. A larger portion of work will come from STEM fields (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Cybersecurity, AI/Robotics, etc.). Must have a confirmed Federal Work-Study (FWS) award for the 2026–2027 year.
  • Scientific Curiosity: Passion for learning about technologies outside of your specific major and the ability to grasp new scientific concepts quickly.
  • Translation Communication: Ability to explain deep technical information and processes using clear, everyday terminology.
  • Analytical Reasoning: Analytical and research skills; able to work with your team on commercial markets and map technical features to customer benefits.
  • Team Synergy: Capable of working with non-technical team members, supporting sales and marketing colleagues to meet deliverables.
Why You Should Apply

Bridge the Gap Between Science and Business: Many only have experience directly in their major or primary area of interest. This role demonstrates to future employers that you are flexible and can translate your skills across industries and roles.

Flexible & Hybrid: This position offers a flexible schedule that respects your classes, combining remote lead generation with high-energy, in-person strategy sessions on the Boca Raton campus (other campuses can be considered).
