Department Overview

The OHSU-PSU School of Public Health (SPH) is aligned with the American Public Health Association in declaring racism a public health crisis, and our School is committed to becoming an antiracist SPH. We are working to center social justice in our internal and external work as a school and are committed to addressing structural and institutional racism, and to holding ourselves accountable to this work.

This position is intended for an SPH Graduate Student in the MS or MPH program in Biostatistics.

Function/Duties of Position
  • Assist faculty and staff biostatisticians with statistical programming, data management, statistical analysis, and statistical reporting.
  • Statistical activities related to grant preparation, including power and sample size calculations/simulation.
  • Other research tasks may include assistance with literature searches, preparation of presentations, reports, and manuscripts, and other tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in Graduate Program: MS or MPH in Biostatistics program at OHSU/PSU School of Public ealth (minimum 4.5 credit hours)
  • Experience with statistical programs such as Stata, R, SAS or others, data managing/curating datasets for anaysis, and strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated mature and effective interpersonal communications skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility with appropriate demeanor to maintain good working relationships.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with faculty and investigators, staff, students, and visitors at all levels within OHSU and in the community. The ability to forge and foster collaborative working relationships and enlist the support of faculty and staff, both within and external to BDP and SPH.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks under conditions of fluctuating workloads, competing requirements, and changing deadlines; and following through on assignments. 

  • Discretionary judgment necessary to handle confidential matters.

  • Strong demonstrated organization skills, with the ability to understand overall program objectives and maintain attention to detail.

  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

  • Database development (e.g. REDCap)
  • Working with large administrative or other research data sources
Additional Details
  • Typical work schedule is up to 20 hours per week typically between 8a-5p, Monday-Friday. Some occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Routine involvement in web-based meetings.
  • Travel between SPH (Vanport Building at SW 4th and SW Montgomery) and OHSU locations on the hill and south waterfront may be occasionally necessary for meetings.
