Job description

POSITION GOAL:ย ย  Interpret for hearing impaired students that have mainstreamed into regular classes
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Interpret the spoken message to the hearing impaired student at his/her level of language comprehension via sign language and finger spelling or translate VERBATIM via signing and finger spelling.
  2. Reverse interpret (voice) messages signed by the hearing impaired student.
  3. Assist in communication between the regular classroom teacher and special education personnel.
  4. Complete student monitoring sheets as requested.
  5. Attend meetings and participate in in-service education programs for full time employees.
  6. Participate in workshops for the hearing impaired students and/or school personnel regarding the role of the interpreter as needed.
  7. Participate in parent conferences and staffings as requested.
  8. Understand and follow program guidelines for educational interpreters.
  9. Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Hearing Impaired Department Chairman and/or Hearing Impaired Teacher.
