About the Role:

The High School Student Assistance Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of high school students. This position focuses on identifying students who may be facing challenges such as mental health issues, substance abuse, or family difficulties, and connecting them with appropriate resources and interventions. The specialist collaborates closely with educators, counselors, families, and community organizations to create a supportive environment that fosters student success and resilience. By providing direct assistance, advocacy, and preventive education, the role aims to improve student attendance, engagement, and overall school climate. Ultimately, the High School Student Assistance Specialist contributes to the development of well-rounded students who are equipped to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational or community setting.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and common challenges faced by high school students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, families, and school staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related discipline.
  • Certification or licensure as a school counselor, social worker, or related professional.
  • Experience with substance abuse prevention programs and mental health interventions.
  • Familiarity with local community resources and support services for youth and families.
  • Training in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, or conflict resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to identify students in need of assistance related to academic, behavioral, or personal challenges.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with school staff, families, and external agencies.
  • Provide counseling, crisis intervention, and referral services to students experiencing difficulties.
  • Facilitate workshops and educational programs on topics such as substance abuse prevention, mental health awareness, and coping strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, families, school personnel, and community resources to coordinate comprehensive support.
  • Monitor student attendance and behavior patterns to proactively address potential issues.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student needs and develop coordinated intervention strategies.
