What is a student ambassador volunteer?

Student Ambassador Volunteers are students who represent their school or organization by promoting events, assisting new students, and fostering a welcoming community. They often help with campus tours, outreach activities, and provide information about resources and opportunities available to peers. Their role is to create a positive environment, support student engagement, and act as a bridge between students and staff. Volunteering as a Student Ambassador is a great way to develop leadership, communication, and networking skills.

How does a student ambassador volunteer typically collaborate with other departments or student organizations on campus?

Student Ambassador Volunteers often serve as liaisons between their institution and prospective students, which means they regularly collaborate with admissions, student services, and various academic departments. They may coordinate campus tours, participate in outreach events, or assist in orientation programs alongside other student leaders. This cross-departmental teamwork helps ambassadors develop strong communication and organizational skills, while also expanding their campus network and gaining a deeper understanding of university operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a student ambassador volunteer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Student Ambassador Volunteer, you need strong interpersonal skills, a good academic standing, and a genuine enthusiasm for representing your institution or organization. Familiarity with communication platforms, event management tools, and basic social media skills are typically required. Outstanding Student Ambassadors excel in public speaking, teamwork, and adaptability, allowing them to engage diverse audiences and peers effectively. These skills are important because they enable ambassadors to build positive relationships, promote their institution, and successfully support outreach and engagement initiatives.

What is the difference between Student Ambassador Volunteer vs Student Intern?

The roles differ mainly in their objectives and work environments, but both are valuable for student development and networking.

Job description

Are you interested in joining a purpose-driven company in the music industry? Do you thrive in a collaborative, hybrid work environment? If you do, we would like to get to know you.

 WORKING AT THE MLC

The MLC is committed to excellence, service and transparency. Our culture is collaborative, and our team works in a hybrid environment. On our team, you are respected, valued for your unique strengths and experiences, and empowered to identify and resolve your own challenges.

THE MLC STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

  • The MLC Student Ambassador program provides college and university students the opportunity to earn the designation "MLC Student Ambassador" through an assessment of their knowledge about The MLC, and commitment to continued dissemination of information about The MLC.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors enjoy a variety of benefits, described below.
  • There is no cost to participate in the program, and there are no geographic requirements or limitations. However, students must be based in the U.S. in order to participate.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors access our exclusive online Student Ambassador "course" on the Moodle learning platform in order to keep track of their activities.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are not employees or independent contractors of The MLC. There is no compensation paid by The MLC to Student Ambassadors.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors may not hold themselves out as though they are employees of The MLC.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

  • The MLC Student Ambassador program is available exclusively to students who are currently enrolled in courses at a United States college, university, or institute accredited by an accrediting agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education. There is no limit to how many we may have from any one school.
  • Proof of enrollment status must be submitted as part of the application.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • Students gain invaluable knowledge about The MLC and help songwriters get paid.
  • Students accepted into the program are permitted to use the "MLC Student Ambassador" designation, followed by the academic semester or quarter it is active for (e.g., Fall 2024), on their resume, in their bio, and on their social media profiles.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are given access to digital and physical assets that can be used to help spread the word about The MLC to potential members.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are invited to exclusive events designed specifically for Student Ambassadors.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors receive free MLC merchandise.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are guaranteed to be invited to an interview if they choose to apply to an internship position at The MLC.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors can participate in The MLC's Educational Event Support Program.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are thanked publicly by name on The MLC's social media channels, once they successfully complete the program.

PROGRAM OBLIGATIONS AND RENEWALS

  • MLC Student Ambassadors must help spread the word about The MLC to songwriters, composers, and lyricists in their local communities, via 3 posts on Instagram per academic period (semester or quarter).
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are provided with a syllabus for the program and the specific materials they must use in the social media posts.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are invited to, but not required to, explore the option of putting up posters about The MLC on their campus, where permitted.

PROGRAM TIMELINE

  • The MLC Student Ambassador designation is valid for one academic period (an academic semester or quarter).
  • For the first academic period, a Student Ambassador is granted the designation based on a knowledge assessment and their commitment to complete the required tasks in the current academic period.
  • For subsequent academic periods, a Student Ambassador is granted a renewal of the designation if they met the requirements in the prior academic period, and commit to continuing in the program.
  • Student Ambassadors will be able to submit a simple online Renewal Application at the start of each academic period.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Applicants must complete the information below in the section labeled Apply for this Job
  • Be sure to use either your .edu email address, or a personal one (e.g. gmail.com), not an address at another company.
  • Once an applicant's eligibility is verified, they are provided with access to informational materials.
  • Applicants are then given 5 days to complete a video assessment of their knowledge regarding the educational material. This is done through our hiring platforms Greenhouse and Spark Hire.
  • Applicants will also be presented with optional EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) questions, even though this is not an employment position. We would like to gather demographics information about our Educator Ambassadors, but answering these questions is voluntary.
