Low Voltage Structured Cabling Technician

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt

Position Summary

The Low Voltage Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for independently installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex cabling infrastructure, including both copper and fiber optic systems. This role demands an in-depth understanding of network cabling systems, including termination, testing, and installation to industry standards. This role ensures all aspects of installation and maintenance of network hardware infrastructure are executed with precision and in compliance with safety and quality standards with minimal supervision.

Experience

ยท 2+ years of hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT systems, including both copper and fiber optic networks.

  • Proven expertise in cabling and infrastructure, including experience with cable pulling, dressing, labeling, termination, and testing for both copper and fiber optic systems.
  • Experience managing and leading projects independently from start to finish, including coordinating site logistics, scheduling, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Additional Responsibilities

ยท Lead the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic cabling for telecommunications systems across a variety of environments, including commercial, industrial, and enterprise-level sites.

  • Independently perform all aspects of cabling systems, including cable pulling, dressing, labeling, termination, and testing, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.
  • Install and configure IT hardware, such as racks, patch panels, backboards, firewalls, network switches, fiber enclosures and various low voltage hardware components, with expertise in both copper and fiber optic networks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues independently, performing site assessments and diagnostics as needed.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to junior technicians, ensuring adherence to company processes, safety standards, and project timelines.
  • Take ownership of project planning, execution, and completion, including managing site logistics, client communications, and scheduling.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering strictly to company policies, industry regulations, and best practices.
  • Ensure the integrity and performance of telecommunications systems by regularly performing preventive maintenance and inspections.
  • Collaborate with project managers, coordinators and other senior technicians to ensure seamless execution of larger-scale projects.
  • Properly checking tools, materials, and equipment in and out of inventory; ensuring all items are tracked, accounted for, and maintained in good working condition to support job readiness and reduce loss or delays.

ยท Extensive experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic cabling systems, including a deep understanding of industry standards for cable pulling, dressing, termination, and testing.

  • Expertise in the installation of IT hardware, including backboards, racks, patch panels, fiber enclosures, and network infrastructure.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly assess and resolve complex system issues.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documentation, blueprints, and system diagrams.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting over 50 lbs., climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards and protocols, with the ability to implement them on-site and ensure team compliance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications
