Job description

Vican Manufacturing Solutions is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication projects. This position will review bid documents, complete material takeoffs, obtain vendor pricing, and develop proposals that clearly define the project scope.

Responsibilities:

  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents
  • Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs for structural and miscellaneous steel
  • Estimate material, processing, fabrication, coating, freight, and subcontracted costs
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from material suppliers and subcontractors
  • Identify scope gaps, conflicts, risks, and unclear requirements
  • Prepare bid clarifications, exclusions, qualifications, and delivery assumptions
  • Develop accurate estimates and formal customer proposals
  • Maintain organized bid files and supporting documentation
  • Coordinate with sales, purchasing, detailing, production, and project management
  • Assist with handoff meetings for awarded projects
  • Track outstanding quotes and revise estimates as project information changes
  • Support change-order pricing and other project-related estimates

Qualifications:

  • Structural steel estimating or fabrication experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings
  • Understanding of structural steel shapes, plates, connections, and fabrication processes
  • Experience performing detailed material takeoffs
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other estimating software
  • Strong math, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and meet submission deadlines
  • Practical understanding of material purchasing, shop labor, coatings, and freight is preferred
  • Experience with pipe supports, platforms, stairs, handrails, skids, or pipe racks is a plus

  • This is an in-office position with regular coordination across estimating, sales, and operations
