Job description

The Fitter Helper assists the Fitter to lay out, fit, and weld fabricated pipe and related components such as flanges, elbows, and ports.

  • Assist in measuring, marking, cutting, and positioning structural metal components.
  • Help set up and prepare materials and tools for fitting operations.
  • Hold, align, and secure materials in place while the fitter completes welding or bolting tasks.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and rigging equipment under supervision.
  • Clean and maintain work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Follow all site safety rules, PPE requirements, and health regulations.
  • Support quality control efforts by checking materials and finished parts for compliance.
  • Help move heavy materials or components using hoists, cranes, or forklifts as directed.
  • Perform basic grinding, drilling, and deburring as required.
  • Assist in reading and interpreting simple blueprints or drawings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  2. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, read and understand pipe drawings, and procedure manuals.
  3. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  4. Must be able to speak effectively with supervisors and other employees.
  5. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  6. Must be able to accurately read tape measure.
  7. Must be able to understand and execute instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  8. Must be able to recognize and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  9. Must be able to use company computer systems to view and understand the action required from the dispatch list.
  10. Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
  11. Must be willing to learn and take directions from senior fitters and supervisors.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

  • The employee is regularly required to sit or stand; use their hands, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include both close and distant vision.
  • Successful passing of vision test (20/30 with or without corrective lenses; if corrective lenses required, corrective lenses must be worn while completing all essential job functions and responsibilities) required every 2 years.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and high, precarious places.
