Description

GAI Consultants is looking for an Engineer 1 (Structural) to support our Power and Industry Business Sector. This position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule based out of Cranberry, PA . This person will serve as a structural engineer and project/task manager for structural discipline projects for industrial, power, utility, government, health care, educational, and commercial clients.

This position executes structural engineering tasks, including working/coordinating with engineering/drafting staff, preparation and checking of calculations, drawing development, preparation of deliverables, schedule compliance, and budget tracking for assigned tasks. Project work includes new construction, modification of existing structures, condition assessment/rehabilitation, and feasibility studies. Projects include the traditional Design/Bid/Build delivery method, as well as Owner's Engineer Services, Time & Materials, and Design/Build.

Job Duties:

  • Perform structural analysis/design and preparation of drawings and specifications per engineering standards and applicable codes, including reinforced concrete and structural steel complying with ACI and AISC standards.
  • Project and task management responsibilities include delivering the scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability of all projects managed. Plans and manages small to medium-value projects and multiple projects at one time. Works closely with Project Accounting to monitor and control project cost and billings to meet budget profit, analyze project performance data, and develop recovery plans as needed.
  • Proposal preparation includes the scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Draft site reports, design narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
  • Collaborate with other structural engineering leads for resource and schedule management, the performance of QA/QC peer reviews, and staff mentorship.
  • Independently conduct structural field condition assessments.
  • Performance of bid and construction phase services including responding to bidder questions, responding to Contractor Requests for Information, submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation.
  • Perform engineering tasks for projects that are managed by other structural engineering leads.
  • Ability to work independently and direct/oversee engineering and drafting staff on a project basis.
  • Possess strong communication skills that will allow for a collaborative environment with other engineering disciplines.

  • Have the ability to lift 50 lbs., able to climb ladders, and work at heights over 25 ft.
  • Must be able to wear and work in Personal Protection Equipment including fall protection harness and respirator.
  • Physically capable of performing field visits to client sites to obtain photos, physical measurements, and view site conditions.
