Sudden Service, INC (SSI) is a subsidiary of the Taylor Group of Companies, a third-generation family-owned business based in Louisville, MS since 1927.
Job Summary:
This position is to provide prompt and satisfactory responses to service problems requiring technical expertise. The Incumbent reports directly to the General Service Manager and indirectly to the General Manager of Sudden Service, Inc. He coordinates his schedule with and reports activities and/or high-level problems to the General Service Manager. He acts as technical advisor to all departmental personnel and assists parts managers in identification of obsolete or specialized parts. The DOT Field Service Technician II is the company's technical service consultant, available to its customers, its service personnel, and its dealerships. Although some service problems may be solved by telephone, approximately 60% of the incumbent's time is spent travelling to personally diagnose, prescribe appropriate corrective and preventive measures, and may perform repair work to machines at the customer job site. Malfunctions are analyzed and incumbent is accountable for prompt reporting of any recurring problems or failures. It is the incumbent's responsibility to initiate and edit Service News Bulletins outlining problems, diagnoses, cures, etc., and to call attention to special and specific trouble areas.
The incumbent works with various departments to include: (a) Engineering on design, prototype or new machines, to have advance knowledge on components and serviceability; (b) Marketing, particularly in Dealer Sales; and (c) Quality Control and Manufacturing for correcting equipment failures.
The position requires professional ability usually associated with a degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent, which can be acquired by prolonged experience in related fields. He exhibits competence and genuine concern to gain the confidence of the customer or dealer when the company's image is at stake. Must exhibit acknowledged competency in the specialized fields required for this position. (IE. Electrical, Mechanical, Welding, Etc.)
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Consults and coordinates with General Service Manager and / or General Manager SSI to plan effective work and travel schedule, giving priority to Dealer/Customer needs, considering location of machine and availability of parts.
  • Acquaints service people with products and literature, suggest spare parts lists, and recommends equipment or facilities that would best accommodate TMW machines.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to all service calls to solve Dealer/Customer problems, either through telephone technical advice or by physically going to site.
  • Diagnose machine malfunctions (electrical, mechanical, structural, hydraulic, electronic) and failures in the field. Order parts to repair and /or replace worn or defective parts. Report and consult with Engineering, Manufacturing, and other Service personnel involved to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist the Dealer/Customer in installation of special equipment and attachments foreign and domestic, adjust devices and controls to correct malfunctions and keep machine in operating condition.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machines on initial delivery and upon completion of any repair work to ensure proper operation of equipment and components.
  • Use laptop and TICS display to set parameters on Taylor Products.
  • Accompany the Dealer/Customer Service Personnel on service calls as required and may be required to train Dealer/Customer Service and Operators on Taylor Machines.
  • Assist in formulating service policies of a technical nature. On call to the Warranty Board for consultation dealing with warranty issues.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • May be required to travel to domestic or international locations approx. 80 to 120 days per year to set up new equipment, perform field campaigns, repair machines. Must have valid passport, commercial driver's license, and Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) Card.
  • Must be DOT certifiable. (Must be 21 years of age to be DOT certified).
  • Knowledge of Taylor Products to provide accurate up to date information for Dealer/Customer support.
  • Read schematics and blueprints, pinpointing specific areas of problem, walk Dealer/Customer through needed repairs on machine.
  • Must be able to read and understand structural welding prints.
Education and Experience:
  • Preferably a BS in area of specialty.
  • Training required - 4 to 6 years' experience in field of specialty or a related field; some experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Must pass welding test (ASAW).
  • Past structural welding experience is an absolute must.
