Job description:

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs.

Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.

Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis.

Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

"The Structural Engineer position requires a subject matter expert (SME) providing technical oversight for various structural and mechanical systems on the floating dry dock.

The engineer will be required to develop a cohesive working relationship with utility system operators, maintenance personnel, and dock masters.

The candidate must have knowledge of structural design, mechanical design, or naval architecture.

The candidate’s day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within assigned system(s)

o Provide engineering resolutions for system problems/configuration changes

o Produce and/or oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operation

o Provide in field technical support of maintenance and project teams

o Develop a long range strategic plan for improvements to assigned dock system(s)

o Participate in the development of planned maintenance requirements

o Support resolution of unplanned events

o Develop and maintain critical system metrics

o Participate in project design and implementation process for system related projects

o Oversee project/system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performance

o Support internal and external audits of the floating dry dock

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architect degree with a Professional Engineering (PE) license, or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) working towards PE registration, is preferred
  • Knowledge of ASME and MIL-STD-1625D(SH) codes
  • Shipyard/Nuclear facilities experience is desirable
  • Experience with floating dry docks is preferred
