We are 100% employee-owned, with regional and project offices nationwide. Our transportation practice is seeking a staff structural design engineer for our Chicago office. 

Our ideal candidate is someone with strong technical, interpersonal and communication skills who can collaborate effectively with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in the design and production of drawings for projects with transportation related structures; not limited to bridges, culverts, and retaining walls.

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used civil and structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transportation industry.

  • Perform design/review of structural calculations from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

  • Perform field inspections or measurements.

  • Attend project meetings.

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering a plus.

  • Minimum 3 years structural engineering experience in the design of highway structures for IDOT, Illinois Tollway preferred. Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) design experience a plus.

  • Illinois Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering License (SE)preferred or ability to obtain.

  • Must have a good understanding of structural design principles, or an aptitude to develop.   

  • Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present information.

  • Must have good attention to detail, organization, and critical thinking skills.

  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software including MicroStation and Open Bridge Modeler.

  • Experience with design software including MDX, LEAP Bridge, AASHTOWare, Midas Civil , or other comparable technical design and modeling software.

  • Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (e,g. Microsoft Office Suite).  

  • Limited Travel to Support KC and other Regional Offices 10%.
