Guardian Engineering Enterprises, LLC seeks a Structural Engineer to join either our Houston, TX, Chicago, IL, or Brooklyn, NY office.

The structural engineer will perform structural engineering assignments to design equipment, components, structures, or systems โ€” with a growing focus on AI infrastructure, data center solutions, and mission-critical facilities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare project specifications detailing client performance requirements, component needs, design codes, and vendor drawing requirements for structural systems and building components.

  • Assist in designing structural systems for data centers and industrial buildings, focusing on structural reliability, equipment support capabilities, and loadโ€‘bearing capacity.

  • Support the design of structural systems for highโ€‘performance computing facilities, considering heavy equipment loads, foundation requirements, and vibration sensitivity in AI environments.

  • Prepare engineering sketches, load analyses, and structural models for project assignments, including foundation design for data centers and AI facilities.

  • Contribute to the design of equipment support structures and foundations to ensure integrity and operational reliability for critical AI and data center infrastructure.

  • Develop specifications for structural materials such as steel, reinforced concrete, and equipment foundations for missionโ€‘critical building applications.

  • Review vendor drawings for compliance with specifications and coordinate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Support efficient structural design implementation to optimize building performance, including equipment vibration isolation and advanced construction technologies.

  • Work within schedule and budget parameters while maintaining quality standards and following engineering checking procedures.

  • Coordinate structural design with architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems for integrated facility layouts.

  • Comply with all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) standards and actively participate in safety programs.

  • Support client relationships through professional communication, estimating support, and collaborative technical knowledge sharing.

Experience & Skill Requirements
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Engineering required (Civil with structural emphasis or Structural Engineering preferred); ABETโ€‘accredited degree preferred.

  • EIT certification preferred; PE license a plus but not required. (2โ€“5 years of experience in structural engineering; field experience a plus.)

  • Familiarity with SAP2000, ETABS, RISA, RAM Structural System, AutoCAD, and Revit Structure.

  • Exposure to data center structural systems, including heavy equipment loading, raised floors, and foundation design for missionโ€‘critical environments.

  • Basic knowledge of AI hardware structural requirements such as rack systems, equipment supports, and GPU/TPU cluster infrastructure.

  • Understanding of steel and reinforced concrete design, foundation engineering, and construction methods used in commercial and industrial buildings.

  • Basic understanding of structural analysis, load paths, and seismic design principles with interest in advanced highโ€‘performance systems.

  • Interest in sustainable design practices and material optimization with knowledge of relevant codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7).

  • Understanding of load calculations, anchorage design, and construction sequencing for integrated structural systems.

  • Strong team collaboration, communication, and timeโ€‘management skills.

  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary structural design for commercial and industrial applications.
