Our multidisciplinary design and assessment services cover a wide range of needs. We perform condition assessments, investigations, feasibility studies, and peer reviews. We design repairs, renovations, and alterations and oversee their execution in the field.

Your Role
As a Structural Engineer Intern in our Restoration & Renewal Practice, you will gain hands-on experience assessing, repairing, and rehabilitating existing buildings and structures. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on projects ranging from historic preservation to modern renovations,assistingwith structural evaluations, documentation, and solution development. This is a unique opportunity to understand how engineers help extend the life and safety of buildings while learning practical approaches to complex renewal challenges.This intern role is for Summer 2027.

WhatYou'llDo

  • Assistin field investigations, documenting structural conditions, and collecting data for analysis.

  • Support evaluation of structural integrity, damage, and deterioration for a range of building types.

  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, drawings, andexhibitsfor internal and client use.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other team members to develop practical repair and rehabilitation solutions.

  • Learn and apply industry standards, building codes, and best practices in structural renewal.

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering.

  • Strong academic record anddemonstratedinterest in structural repair, renovation, or preservation.

Compensation

The rate for this position generally is$25-$35hourly.This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the Illinois State Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful Illinois State applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in Illinois State or perform the position from Illinois State. Similar positions located outside of Illinois State will not necessarily receive the same compensation.Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted byIllinoisEqual Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
