Overview

At EPCOR, asset management is about building strong, reliable systems and planning for the long term. We are seeking an Engineer, Asset Management to play a key role in strengthening how we plan, govern, and make informed decisions about our water, wastewater, and stormwater assets across the organization.

In this role, you will help develop and advance EPCOR’s Asset Management governance, frameworks, and tools, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, maintenance, planning, and project delivery. Your work will directly support long‑term capital and operating plans, balancing risk, cost, and system performance to ensure safe and reliable service for our customers and communities.

This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program. Candidates must reside in Edmonton or the surrounding area, or within a 90‑minute commute of the primary work location.


 

What you’d be responsible for

As an Engineer, Asset Management, you will contribute to both strategy and execution over a 3–12 month horizon. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Support the development and execution of Asset Management (AM) strategies and business plans, building effective relationships across EPCOR Water Services.
  • Deliver short-term (3–12 month) initiatives aligned with AM priorities using a risk-based, data-driven approach.
  • Contribute to AM governance, including development and maintenance of the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), AM Policy, standards, and risk frameworks.
  • Evaluate technologies, tools, and data systems, providing recommendations to support long-term planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Monitor and report on asset and system risk trends across water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, including aging infrastructure.
  • Prioritize asset risks using structured methodologies to inform investment planning and lifecycle decision-making.
  • Perform data analysis and validate modelling outputs to ensure accuracy, reliability, and alignment with engineering principles.
  • Support development and implementation of long-term risk framework and prioritization at asset and portfolio levels.
  • Develop and implement decision-making frameworks, processes, and tools to ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards (e.g., ISO 55000).
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder sessions to identify gaps and drive improvements across engineering, operations, and project delivery teams.
  • Provide technical review and oversight of engineering work, including inspection practices, reports, and documentation, ensuring quality, consistency, and sound technical outcomes.

 

What’s required to be successful

Education & Credentials

  • A degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical/Structural Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • A Professional Designation:
    • Certified Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA or eligible for registration with APEGA,
    • Professional Licensee (P.L.) designation, or
    • Engineer in Training (EIT) registered with APEGA.

Experience

  • Minimum 4+ years of progressive experience in asset management, municipal or regulated utilities, or the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of water/wastewater systems.
  • Experience or familiarity with Asset Management frameworks and standards (e.g., ISO 55000, IAM, PAS55), including risk assessment and decision-making methodologies.
  • Experience with data analysis, statistical/probabilistic modelling (e.g., Monte Carlo), and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is an asset.
  • Experience supporting long-term capital and operating forecasts, modelling, and scenario analysis is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to municipal infrastructure, particularly water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
  • Understanding of risk assessment methods, criticality analysis, and decision-making frameworks.
  • Familiarity with condition assessment standards, inspection practices, and technologies for water and drainage infrastructure is an asset.
  • Proficiency with business and technical tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, GIS, Power BI).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and support decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentations, and the ability to clearly communicate technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across stakeholder groups to gather information, evaluate options, and support recommended solutions.

Licensing and Driving Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
