Fickett Structural Solutions, Inc. is looking for mid-level and senior-level Structural Engineers with 5+ years of experience to work on bridge design projects and various structural design challenges. Our ideal candidates possess a solid structural engineering background, experience with structural engineering software, and excellent critical thinking and communication skills.

 Position Overview

  • Lead, manage, and perform new bridge and repair designs, load rating and analysis of existing bridges as well as other structural engineering tasks for bridge systems
  • Perform quality control and check design calculations performed by other engineers
  • Assist our structural bridge inspection teams as needed, performing structural inspections of bridges, culverts, ancillary structures, dams, and buildings throughout the United States
  • Collaborate with coworkers and clients to achieve common goals
  • Open to some travel for out-of-town field work, including consecutive overnight stays

Qualifications

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET Accredited University.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee, Oregon, Washington, or Wisconsin.; or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within 180 days of hire.  

Previous Work Experience and Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in structural engineering
  • Technical capabilities will include bridge design for new structures, load ratings for existing structures, rehabilitations, and retrofits, with experience in prestressed concrete, steel, and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes

Preferred computer skills and experience with:

  • Common structural engineering software, including spreadsheets MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or Revit 
  • BIM Modeling
  • GT Strudl, SAP2000, CSiBridge, LARSA 4D, MIDAS, or similar FEA tools
  • Experience with load rating analysis software such as BrR
  • Microsoft Office
  • Bluebeam 

  Requirements for Field Activities

  • Comfort with working at heights while utilizing lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and/or rope access.  
  • While in the field, the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to 8 hours or more a day. 
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
