What does a structural design manager do?

A Structural Design Manager oversees the planning, design, and coordination of structural engineering projects such as buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure. They lead a team of engineers and drafters, ensuring that designs meet safety standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements. Their role includes managing project timelines, budgets, and collaboration with other departments like architecture and construction. Structural Design Managers also review and approve design calculations and drawings, and often liaise with clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a structural design manager?

To thrive as a Structural Design Manager, you need deep expertise in structural engineering principles and project management, typically backed by a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
